  5. Welcome to Music Time for Windows. Included below are some notes
  6. and bits of information which may clarify how MusicTime works and
  7. what you need to do to get up and running. If you have any other
  8. questions, please refer to the MusicTime User's Manual.

  35. IF YOU HAVE A MIRACLE KEYBOARD SEE THE SECTION BELOW ON USING
  36. MUSICTIME WITH A MIRACLE KEYBOARD.

  38. INSTALLING THE MUSIC NOTATION FONT
  39.  
  40. The Notation Font used in MusicTime is called "Anastasia". This
  41. font was copied to your MusicTime directory when you installed
  42. MusicTime. To add the Anastasia Font to Windows, run the Fonts
  43. applet in the Control Panel. Use the "Add" button and select the
  44. directory where you installed MusicTime. The font name "Anastasia
  45. Regular (TrueType) " will appear along with the three "Frets"
  46. fonts - "Frets A", "Frets B" and "Frets C". The Fret fonts are 
  47. guitar chord diagrams. MusicTime will run without the Frets
  48. fonts added to your Window's fonts but the Anastasia font is
  49. required for MusicTime to run. Select the Anastasia font or use 
  50. "Add All" to select all four fonts. OK the selection. The selected
  51. fonts will be added to your Windows fonts. For MusicTime to use 
  52. the font, you must also enable the use of TrueType. Click on the 
  53. button "TrueType" in the Fonts Applet. The TrueType option 
  54. "Enable TrueType Fonts" must have an "x" in the box next to the 
  55. option choice. After installing the Anastasia Font and enabling 
  56. the TrueType Fonts within the fonts dialog, you must next check 
  57. the Printers Applet (also in theControl Panel) and select a 
  58. default printer.

  61. NOTE:  If you are concerned about the amount of free space on your 
  62. hard disk, you can remove the font files from your MusicTime
  63. directory after you have installed the fonts.  These files are:
  64. AN.TTF, FRA.TTF, FRB.TTF and FRC.TTF.  The Fonts applet will
  65. copy these files to the Windows System directory during the
  66. font installation.

  69. SELECTING A DEFAULT PRINTER
  70.  
  71. You do NOT need to connect a printer to your computer to use
  72. MusicTime. You MUST, however, select a default printer in the
  73. Printer Applet or MusicTime will not run. MusicTime uses
  74. information from your selected printer driver when displaying
  75. notation. Almost any printer driver can be selected. The only
  76. exceptions are GENERIC/TEXT ONLY and printers either configured
  77. to only print text (i. e. set to "draft" quality output) or
  78. incapable of printing graphics. The Printers dialog should
  79. display a default printer or you should install and select a
  80. printer before running MusicTime. If you do not have a printer, a
  81. good choice will be any of the Apple LaserWriter printers. To add
  82. these to your Windows system, use the ADD button in the Printers
  83. Applet and follow the prompts when Windows asks you for the
  84. required disks.

  89. This version of MusicTime is designed to run with the Windows 3.1
  90. MIDI drivers or with Multimedia Extensions to Windows 3.0. If you
  91. are running Windows 3.0 you will need to install Windows 3.1 and
  92. then re-install MusicTime.

  97. MIRACLE KEYBOARD SETUP
  98.  
  99. A different installation procedure is provided for Miracle
  100. Keyboard owners who wish to use their Miracle Keyboard with
  101. MusicTime with a direct connection to the serial port. To install
  102. for the Miracle keyboard ONLY, the setup program requires a
  103. special command line.
  104.  
  105. Install for the Miracle Keyboard:
  106.  
  107. Step 1: Run Windows.
  108. Step 2: Place the MusicTime diskette into your disk drive.
  109. Step 3: Choose "Run" from the file menu in either the Program or
  110.             File Manager.
  111. Step 4: Enter the following into the command line:
  112.  
  113. A:\setup miracle
  114.  
  115. If you are using a different disk drive than "A", substitute 
  116. the correct disk drive letter in place of the letter "A" in 
  117. the example above.
  118.  
  119. IMPORTANT: Before running MusicTime with a Miracle Keyboard you
  120. must QUIT WINDOWS and then START WINDOWS FROM THE SAME DIRECTORY
  121. WHERE YOU INSTALLED MusicTime. In the Windows 3.1 sub directory
  122. there is a file called MMSYSTEM.DLL. This file controls the
  123. configuration of Windows Drivers. Passport has created its own
  124. MMSYSTEM.DLL which enables the Miracle Keyboard to communicate
  125. with MusicTime through a COM port without a MIDI interface. When
  126. Windows is run from the MusicTime sub directory, the Passport
  127. MMSYSTEM.DLL is used instead of Windows's MMSYSTEM.DLL Using
  128. Passport's MMSYSTEM.DLL will disable sounds and drivers that use
  129. Windows MMSYSTEM.DLL. To restore the sounds and drivers, quit
  130. Windows and launch Windows from outside the MusicTime directory.

  132. SETTING THE COM PORT FOR THE MIRACLE
  133.  
  134. Four COM port choices are available for use with Windows 3.1.
  135. Check to make sure you have selected the COM port connected to
  136. your Miracle Keyboard. The MIDISET program defaults to COM1. COM1
  137. uses interrupt 2- if you have a mouse or other device using
  138. interrupt 2, the mouse will freeze after running MusicTime. If
  139. you are using a different COM port, run the MIDISET applet to
  140. select the correct COM port. The MIDISET applet is automatically
  141. installed if you run the Miracle Keyboard installation as described 
  142. above.  If you cannot find the MIDISET applet, reinstall MusicTime 
  143. using the (A:\setup miracle) command line.

  146. Additional Information

  148. IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT MIDI DRIVERS
  149.  
  150. MIDI interfaces require the presence of special software in order
  151. to run. This software is in the form of a "driver; " in most
  152. cases you should install the MIDI Driver that came with your MIDI
  153. interface when running under Windows 3.1.
  154.  
  155. TROUBLE SHOOTING
  156.  
  157. -> If you get the message 'Out of environment space' when booting
  158. after installing MusicTime, increase the environment size in
  159. your CONFIG.SYS file. The statement:
  160.  
  161. shell=command. com /e: 512 /p
  162.  
  163. will most likely provide you with ample space. If not, increase
  164. the number after '/e: '.
  165.  
  166. -> If you get no MIDI I/O whatsoever, make sure that the
  167. SYSTEM.INI settings are correct. Check the card and its
  168. documentation to make sure of what the values are.
