- Thanks for downloading THE TEMPEST, an adventure game based (very loosely)
- on the play of the same name by Shakespeare.
-
- To run the game, just type TEMPEST and press ENTER.
-
- This is my first attempt at an adventure game, and I would be grateful
- for any comments or feedback. In particular, I find it hard to know if
- I've made the game too easy, or too hard. I suspect that for hard-bitten
- experienced adventurers, the game is far too easy.

-
- I live in Australia, where Compuserve access ain't cheap, so it may be
- several days or a week before I respond. For the same reason, I would
- prefer only DESPERATE requests for hints (receiving and answering costs
- time and thus money).
-
- That's why I included the program HINTBOOK with this package. To use
- this program, which works very much like the hintbooks that can be bought
- for Infocom adventures, type: HINTBOOK TEMPEST and press ENTER.
-
- You are then asked for the name (which doesn't have to be the full name)
- of a room, object or creature you need a hint about. The program will
- check that it has the right thing by asking you:
-
- "Do you mean the (room/object/creature) XXXXX? Y/N".
-
- For example, if you wanted a hint on, say, a telescope, you could type in
- just SCOPE, and the program might respond by asking:
-
- Do you mean the object SCIENTIFIC MICROSCOPE? Y/N (to which you'd reply N)
- Do you mean the object ASTRONOMICAL TELESCOPE? Y/N (to which you'd reply Y)
-
- If there were hints for this object, the program would then give you the
- first hint, and then ask you if you wanted the next hint for the object.
- Hints get stronger as you go. It's advisable for getting the most fun
- out of the adventure just to take one hint at a time, try to get beyond
- that point in the game, and only if still completely stumped come back to
- HINTBOOK and progress to the next hint. If you just sit and read all
- the hints for all the rooms and objects, you might as well not bother
- playing the game - there will be no challenge.
