  9. Put the unzipped files in a directory of your choice,
  10. CD to the directory, and type HOBBS Enter.

  13. History

  16. HOBBS was implemented in GAC (commodore64), ADVSYS,
  17. GAGS and AGT.  Only the AGT version (for IBM, Mac and
  18. Amiga) ever saw the light of day.  The IBM version was
  19. a finalist in the 1989 AGT Games Contest.

  21. Subsequently, this version (bigger than the Contest 
  22. version) was sold commercially.  It was also
  23. sold in conjunction with the book "Computer Adventures -
  24. The Secret Art".

  26. This freeware version is available for uploading,
  27. downloading and playing.  The copyright, however,
  28. remains with Amazon Systems.

  30. No charge must be made for the game.  No changes
  31. must be made to it.

  34. About the Adventure
  35. -------------------

  37. Having spent aeons in the caverns of other authors'
  38. adventures, I made a point, with this game, of being
  39. 'fair' in my demands on players' intellects and
  40. patience.
  41.  
  42. So the use of (H)ELP is strongly advised.  There is
  43. a unique HELP for every location, and a few specials.
  44.  
  45. As usual, EXAMINE / READ everything.
  46.  
  47. (N)ORTH, (S)OUTH, (E)AST, (W)EST, ENTER, EXIT,
  48. (I)NVENTORY, (L)OOK, LIST EXITS (obvious exits only),
  49. A(G)AIN, SAVE, QUIT all work.

  51. Hit the ? key for a list of Function / Cursor keys.
  52.  
  53. RESTORE is password-protected. The commercial version
  54. of the program was copy-protected with a code wheel.
  55.  
  56. You can make as many SAVE files as you like.
  57. Only one RESTORE is allowed per instance.  Once you
  58. have RESTORED once, you have to QUIT and start
  59. again, which actually is no hardship if you know
  60. the passwords which are:
