- Star Trek : The Next Generation "A Final Unity"
- Information for the running of Star Trek : The Next Generation "A Final Unity"
- for IBM-PC's under Windows '95.
-
-
-
- Star Trek, the Next Generation "A Final Unity" for IBM-PC's was developed
- before the official release of Micrsoft's Windows '95. Because Star Trek
- requires 100% control of your hardware, it may or may not run in Windows '95.
- Depending on the quality of your hardware, you can try to run Star Trek in
- a DOS VM, or "MS-DOS Mode" (MS-DOS mode is recommended.)
-
- Setting up and running Star Trek in MS-DOS mode:
-
- To enter Windows '95 MS-DOS mode, you can either shut the computer off and
- then turn it on again, or :
-
- 1) In Windows '95, click on the "START" button
-
- 2) Click on "Shutdown"
-
- 3) Select "Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode" and press "Yes"
-
- Once you system starts booting into MS-DOS mode, click the <F8> key. This
- will bring up a menu.
-
- 4) From the menu, choose "Command Prompt Only"
-
- This will drop you to a "C" prompt.
-
- (You should now be able to go to your CD-ROM drive letter by typing in your
- designated CD-ROM drive letter followed by a colon, then hit <ENTER>. If you
- receive an "INVALID DRIVE SPECIFICATION" error, then your DOSSTART files are
- not set up correctly. Please consult the Windows '95 literature.)
-
- 5) From your CD-ROM drive prompt, type "INSTALL" <hit ENTER>. The Star Trek
- installation screen should appear.
-
- 6) After installing the game, exit back out to the DOS prompt.
-
- 7) You can play Star Trek at any time in MS-DOS mode by simply going to your
- STTNG directory on your hard drive and type "STTNG" <hit ENTER>.
-
-
-
- Setting up Star Trek using WINDOWS '95 DOS Virtual Mode:
-
- In order to install and run Star Trek in a Windows '95 DOS virtual
- environment, you must fool Star Trek and it's installer from finding out that
- Windows '95 is running. Here are instructions :
-
- 1) Put the CD in the CD-ROM drive
-
- 2) Click on "My Computer"
-
- 3) Double-click on the CD drive
-
- 4) Use your right mouse button to click on "Install"
-
- 5) Click on "Properties"
-
- 6) Click on "Program TAB"
-
- 7) Click on "Advanced"
-
- 8) Click on "Prevent MS-DOS based programs from detecting Windows"
-
- 9) Click on "OK"
-
- 10) Click on "OK"
-
- 11) Double-click on the "Install" icon
-
- (If you receive a message that your CD is too slow, ignore it. The CD test is
- invalid in a multitasking environment. You may also receive a suggestion to
- setup an icon for MS-DOS mode as the installer tests your video card. In
- most cases you can ignore this message (If you're running a machine that
- meets the absolute minimum system requirements, you may want to set up that
- icon.)
-
- 12) The installer should be able to detect all of your hardware. Take the
- default settings.
-
- 13) To run the game, find the directory where you installed Star Trek, then
- look for the STTNG.EXE file and click on it with the right mouse button.
-
- 14) Click on "Properties"
-
- 15) Click on "Program TAB"
-
- 16) Click on "Advanced"
