  15. About WC4JOY.DLL
  16. ----------------

  18.   WC4JOY.DLL is a set of alternate joystick routines used to provide 
  19.   support for Colorado Spectrum's Notebook Gameport. Joysticks
  20.   tested with the Notebook Gameport in combination with this patch
  21.   include the CH Flightstick, the CH Flightstick Pro, the Thrustmaster
  22.   FCS, the Gravis Analog Pro, and the Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro.

  26.   |  NOTE : THIS PATCH MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU! This patch assumes     |
  27.   |    the Notebook Gameport is in perfect working condition before |
  28.   |    use. In the event the game locks up during detection or      |
  29.   |    cannot detect the Notebook Gameport, please consult the      |
  30.   |    Notebook Gameport's documentation or Colorado Spectrum       |
  31.   |    for troubleshooting instructions.                            |

  36. Installation of WC4JOY.DLL
  37. --------------------------

  39.   1)    Change to the directory where WC4JOYNG.EXE was extracted.
  40.  
  41.   2)    Copy the WC4JOY.DLL file to the C:\WC4 directory, or
  42.         the directory used to install the game, i.e. :
  43.  
  44.             COPY WC4JOY.DLL C:\WC4   [ENTER]
  45.  
  46.   3)    Delete the JOY0.DAT file in your directory.
  47.  
  48.   4)    Make sure your joystick is firmly attached to the Notebook
  49.         Gameport.
  50.  
  51.   5)    Run Wing Commander IV. You should see a brief message stating 
  52.         whether or not the Notebook Gameport was detected, and whether 
  53.         or not the patch was installed. You will be asked to
  54.         recalibrate the joystick.
  55.  
  56.   6)    Once you're into the game, your joystick may drift. This is 
  57.         due to the fact that alternate joystick routines are being 
  58.         used rather than the ones used when you initially installed 
  59.         the game. Simply recalibrate by selecting Calibrate Joystick 
  60.         in the Main Terminal, or press [ALT-C] in gameflow or 
  61.         in space flight. Everything should be working normally.

  63.   7)    Once you're in space flight, you can choose your type of 
  64.         joystick in the Spaceflight Options menu [ALT-O]. This 
  65.         will allow you to use more functional joystick such as the
  66.         CH Flightstick Pro, the Thrustmaster FCS, the Logitech  
  67.         Wingman Extreme, or the Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro.

  75.   To remove this patch, just type in the Wing IV directory :

  77.         DEL WC4JOY.DLL   [ENTER]

  83.   *     You MUST have a working Notebook Gameport to use this patch.
  84.         If the joystick is unplugged, if there is a joystick port 
  85.         conflict, or if the joystick or port is faulty, you may not 
  86.         be able to successfully use this patch.
  87.  
  88.   *     If you are using a computer that has the ACER BIOS, attempting 
  89.         to use this patch with Wing Commander IV without NG.EXE 
  90.         installed will cause a lockup. Simply install NG.EXE before
  91.         attempting to run Wing Commander IV.
