  16. About WC3JOY.DLL
  17. ----------------
  18.  
  19.   WC3JOY.DLL is a set of alternate joystick routines used to provide 
  20.   support for Thrustmaster (TM) and 100%-compatible joystick (such as 
  21.   the Logitech Wingman Extreme). Joysticks tested include the
  22.   Thrustmaster FCS, the Thrustmaster FLCS, and the Logitech Wingman
  23.   Extreme.

  27.   |  NOTE : THIS PATCH MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU! Machines of different  |
  28.   |  speeds return different joystick values (hence, the need for   |
  29.   |  joystick calibration). During testing of these routines, it    |
  30.   |  appeared that machines that returned high-end values for the   |
  31.   |  right-most and down-most positions (in excess of approximately |
  32.   |  1300) would have trouble looking down and left. If this is     |
  33.   |  what is happening in your case, you may be a prime candidate   |                                                               
  34.   |  for a speed-adjustable game card.                              |

  38. Installation of WC3JOY.DLL
  39. --------------------------

  41.   1)    Change to the directory where WC3JOYTM.EXE was extracted.
  42.   
  43.   2)    Copy the WC3JOY.DLL file to the C:\WC3 directory, i.e. :

  45.             COPY WC3JOY.DLL C:\WC3   [ENTER]
  46.  
  47.   3)    Make sure your Thrustmaster-compatible joystick is firmly
  48.         attached to the joystick port. 
  49.  
  50.   4)    Run Wing Commander III. The patch will let you know if it
  51.         detected a Thrustmaster and if it was successfully installed.
  52.         
  53.   5)    Once you're into the game, your joystick may drift. This is 
  54.         due to the fact that alternate joystick routines are being 
  55.         used rather than the ones used when you initially installed 
  56.         the game. Simply recalibrate by selecting Calibrate Joystick 
  57.         in the Main Terminal, or press [ALT-J] in gameflow or [ALT-C]
  58.         in space flight.

  60.   6)    Once you're in space flight, activate Thrustmaster as the 
  61.         control type in the Spaceflight Options menu [ALT-O]. This 
  62.         will allow you to use all four buttons. That's it! The hat
  63.         and all four buttons work as follows :

  65.         HAT UP          F1 - Front View; Toggle cockpit
  66.         HAT LEFT        F2 - Left  View
  67.         HAT RIGHT       F3 - Right View
  68.         HAT DOWN        F4 - Rear  View

  90.   To remove this patch, just type :

  98.   *     You MUST have a working Thrustmaster compatible joystick to 
  99.         use this patch. If there is a joystick port conflict, or if 
  100.         the joystick or port is faulty, you may not be able to 
  101.         successfully use this patch.

  103.   *     Tap the hat in the particular direction, don't hold there.
  104.  
  105.   *     If you try to pause the game with ALT-P, you get left view.
  106.         Simply pause the game with the PAUSE key in the upper-right
  107.         corner of your keyboard.
