  14. About WC3JOY.DLL
  15. ----------------
  16.  
  17.   WC3JOY.DLL is a set of alternate joystick routines used to provide 
  18.   support for Colorado Spectrum's Notebook Gameport. Joysticks
  19.   tested with the Notebook Gameport in combination with this patch
  20.   include the CH Flightstick, the CH Flightstick Pro, the Thrustmaster
  21.   FCS, and the Gravis Analog Pro.

  25.   |  NOTE : THIS PATCH MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU! This patch assumes     |
  26.   |    the Notebook Gameport is in perfect working condition before |
  27.   |    use. In the event the game locks up during detection or      |
  28.   |    cannot detect the Notebook Gameport, please consult the      |
  29.   |    Notebook Gameport's documentation or Colorado Spectrum       |
  30.   |    for troubleshooting instructions.                            |

  35. Installation of WC3JOY.DLL
  36. --------------------------

  38.   1)    Change to the directory where WC3JOYNG.EXE was extracted.
  39.   
  40.   2)    Copy the WC3JOY.DLL file to the C:\WC3 directory, i.e. :

  42.             COPY WC3JOY.DLL C:\WC3   [ENTER]
  43.  
  44.   3)    Run Wing Commander III. You should see a brief message stating 
  45.         whether or not the Notebook Gameport was detected, and whether 
  46.         or not the patch was installed. 
  47.  
  48.   4)    Once you're into the game, your joystick may drift. This is 
  49.         due to the fact that alternate joystick routines are being 
  50.         used rather than the ones used when you initially installed 
  51.         the game. Simply recalibrate by selecting Calibrate Joystick 
  52.         in the Main Terminal, or press [ALT-J] in gameflow or [ALT-C]
  53.         in space flight. Everything should be working normally.

  55.   5)    Once you're in space flight, you can choose your type of 
  56.         joystick in the Spaceflight Options menu [ALT-O]. This 
  57.         will allow you to use more functional joystick such as the
  58.         CH Flightstick Pro, the Thrustmaster FCS, or the Logitech  
  59.         Wingman.

  61.         *NOTE : The hat on the Thrustmaster FCS or the Logitech 
  62.         Wingman Extreme will not work with this patch, although 
  63.         you can use the joystick and its extra buttons.

  66. Uninstallation of WC3JOY.DLL

  69.   To remove this patch, just type :

  71.         DEL C:\WC3\WC3JOY.DLL   [ENTER]

  74. Notes

  77.   *     You MUST have a working Notebook Gameport to use this patch.
  78.         If the joystick is unplugged, if there is a joystick port 
  79.         conflict, or if the joystick or port is faulty, you may not 
  80.         be able to successfully use this patch.
  81.  
  82.   *     If you are using a computer that has the ACER BIOS, attempting 
  83.         to use this patch with Wing Commander III without NG.EXE 
  84.         installed will cause a lockup. Simply install NG.EXE before
  85.         attempting to run Wing Commander III.
