- Thunderscape v1.0 Read Me File
-
- Welcome to Thunderscape, the first game set in SSI's World of Aden.
-
- Here are some last minute changes and suggestions to help you play the
- game:
-
- If you have configured your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS using MS-DOS's
- MEMMAKER, you may experience some memory problems. If your CONFIG.SYS
- has the DEVICE=EMM386.SYS line reserving a block of memory following the
- NOEMS parameter, change it so that it reads as follows:
-
- DEVICE=EMM386.EXE NOEMS
-
- Of course, make sure that your path to the EMM386.EXE file is still
- intact. On most computers, this is c:\dos or c:\windows, so the line may
- look like:
-
- DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS
-
- Thunderscape has an original music soundtrack that is in Redbook audio
- format. If you do not have a CD audio patch cable linking your CD-ROM drive
- to your sound card, you will not be able to hear the music. A patch cable
- may be purchased at any computer store for under $10. You may also enjoy
- the music of Thunderscape by using the CD disk with your home or portable
- audio CD player. Tracks 2 through 13 can be played the same as any music
- CD.
-
- In inventory, the slider bar can be used to display additional skills and
- spells available when advancing to another experience level, as well as in
- character generation. Each time the characters of your party advance to
- another level, you are provided the opportunity to increase their skills.
- When there are many skills or spells listed it is necessary to use the
- slider bars to reveal additional skills.
-
- On the options screen, the difficulty slider bar adjusts the level of
- combat. There are 100 settings between the two ends of the bar. If you
- find that the game is too easy or too hard, try setting the slider up or
- down a few notches. Just because the text below the slider
- (easy/medium/hard) doesn't change, that doesn't mean the difficulty didn't.
- For a real challenge, set it to hard and play with one character!
-
- Fighting with two weapons equipped gives a two-thirds skill penalty to all
- the character's weapon attacks. Normally, every 150 skill with a particular
- class of weapon (sword, for instance) gives you another attack. However,
- using two weapons and suffering the 2/3 penalty may drop your skill below
- the level required for those extra attacks.
-
- Clubs can be used as an off-hand weapon.
-
- To open the treasure chests located in Thunderscape, your character will
- require the skill of lock picking. Possessing this skill will allow your
- party to successfully obtain treasure.
-
- The fire missile option is not effective when the characters are on slopes;
- go to a level surface and the party will be allowed to fire at the monsters
- again.
-
- Hitting the F4 key will display the X,Y,Z map coordinates and the current
- game version.
-
- When the pointer is moved over an item and a hand icon appears,
- right-clicking on the item displays its name. This only works on items
- that can be picked up.
-
- If a puzzle or riddle is giving you a hard time, explore. Many of the
- puzzles have hints scattered about the level that just might provide that
- extra clue you're looking for. Pay close attention to all the plaques and
- scrolls -- they can be a wealth of information.
-
- Save often! Thunderscape is a dangerous world, and nothing is worse than
- exploring for hours only to get killed before you remember to save. If an
- area looks like it is going to be dangerous, chances are it is.
-
- If you find that your character is jumping up and down continuously, press
- the jump key to release.
