  1.             SimLife DOS Updater READ-ME.TXT

  4.     This patch will convert all earlier versions of SimLife DOS to the 
  5. most current version, 1.03. To find out what version you have, start the
  6. SimLife program and begin a scenario. Once the world has finished being 
  7. created, hold down the Alt and Ctrl keys and simultaneously press the V key. 
  8. This will open a window containing the installed version number for SimLife 
  9. and some memory statistics. If the version number listed is 1.03, you do not 
  10. need to run this patch.

  13.     To install the patch:
  14.  
  15. 1.  Get into the directory where SimLife is currently installed.  (Use the 
  16. "CD" or "CHDIR" command to do this, e.g., "CD C:\SIMLIFE" if you installed 
  17. SimLife to the default installation directory.)
  18.  
  19. 2.  Put the SimLife Updater disk in a floppy drive.
  20.  
  21. 3.  Type "COPY A:\*.*" at the DOS command-line prompt, and hit the ENTER key.  
  22. (If the SimLife Updater disk is not in the A: drive, then substitute the 
  23. correct floppy drive letter instead of "A".)

  25. 4.  From the SimLife directory, type "UPDATE" and hit the ENTER key.

  27. 5.  The update process should take several minutes.  When it is completed, 
  28. all temporary updater files will be automatically erased, except the 
  29. UPDATE.BAT file itself, which you can delete by just typing "DEL UPDATE.BAT"
  30. and hitting the ENTER key.

  33. If you have been experiencing difficulties in changing to and running in 
  34. 640 X 480 mode, this patch should solve your problem.  You can change the 
  35. mode either by changing the SIMLIFE.BAT file switch from /800 to /640
  36. or re-run the install program and select the 640 X 480 option.
