  1. Rebel Assault 1.8 Patch Disk
  2.                                                         
  3.    This patch is intended to fix "Unexpected Interrupt"
  4.    errors, joystick jumpiness, running on dark monitors,
  5.     running sound cards at dma 0, and some dos extender 
  6.     incompatibilities.
  7.                                                                      
  8.  1) Unexpected Interrupts
  9.  
  10.      To fix Unexpected Interrupt errors that occur on some
  11.    machines when running Rebel Assault version 1.0, 
  12.    this patch includes version 1.8 of DOS4GW,
  13.    which will be copied into the REBEL\ directory on your
  14.    C: drive.  This replaces version 1.92, which shipped
  15.    with Rebel Assault 1.0.  Version 1.8 seems more
  16.    compatible with some machines.  However, if you have
  17.    new problems after installing this patch, you can
  18.    copy DOS4GW.EXE from your CD and run the patch as
  19.    directed to take advantage of the joystick fix only.

  21.  2) Joystick Patch
  22.                                                          
  23.      To fix joystick jumpiness, this patch includes a new
  24.    version of ASSAULT.EXE, which will be copied to the
  25.    REBEL\ directory on your C: drive.  In addition, the
  26.    joystick shooting controls have been made less
  27.    sensitive.
  28.                                                          
  29.      If you still have joystick problems, make sure only
  30.    one joystick port is enabled on your machine,
  31.    preferably the one on your sound card.  Also, center
  32.    the trimmer adjustments on your joystick to make sure
  33.    you are using its full range of movement.

  35.  3) Brightness controls
  36.  
  37.      In addition, the new ASSAULT.EXE contains a brightness
  38.    control, which you can access during the game with the
  39.    '.' and ',' keys.

  41.  4) Running with more that 16 Megabytes of memory
  42.  
  43.      This disk also contains DOS4GW version 1.95, which
  44.    may fix problems running Rebel on some machines with
  45.    more than 16 megabytes of memory.  Install this version
  46.    by typing "rebel2" as described below.  If this still
  47.    does not work, contact technical support (below).

  49.  5) Installing

  51.    To install ASSAULT.EXE and DOS4GW 1.8
  52.  
  53.      From the floppy, type INSTALL.
  54.  
  55.    To install ASSAULT.EXE and DOS4GW 1.95
  56.  
  57.      From the floppy, type INSTALL2.
  58.  
  59.  6) Running the game with the patch.
  60.                                                          
  61.      Now in the future, run the game by typing 'REBEL'
  62.    from the REBEL\ directory on your C: drive,
  63.    NOT from your CD drive.
  64.  
  65.  7) Making a boot disk.
  66.  
  67.      This patch disk contains BOOTDISK.EXE, a utility which makes a boot
  68.  disk for running Rebel Assault.  After installing this patch, start the
  69.  boot disk maker by typing 'BOOTDISK' from the DOS prompt.  Be sure to have
  70.  a blank floppy disk for your 'A' drive ready.
