  15. Introduction
  16. ============
  17. This new installer allows you to install the game even
  18. if your computer system does not appear to meet the
  19. minimum system requirements. This should solve any
  20. problems with installing STAR TREK: THE NEXT
  21. GENERATION "A Final Unity" on NexGen machines
  22. since they are detected as 386 machines.
  23.  
  24. Instructions
  25. ============
  26. To make sure you have the latest version of the
  27. installer, type "DIR INSTALL.EXE" and look for a file
  28. creation date of 07-07-95. 
  29.  
  30. To run the new installer:
  31.  
  32. 1. Change to the drive and directory where the new
  33.    installer is located.
  34.  
  35. 2. Type "INSTALL -D[d]" where [d] is the letter of
  36.    the CD-ROM drive. For example, if your CD-ROM drive
  37.    is D, type "INSTALL -DD" at the DOS prompt. If your
  38.    CD-ROM drive is F, type "INSTALL -DF".
  39.  
  40. 3. Follow the instructions onscreen and in the
  41.    Installation and Loading Guide.
  42.  
  43. NexGen Computers
  44. ================
  45. Because the NexGen procesoor is not completely
  46. compatible with the Intel 80486 instruction set, "A
  47. Final Unity" will not run. The game will crash with
  48. a DOS/4GW error message.
  49.  
  50. However, you can work around this problem by changing
  51. your CMOS configuration. If you are not an experienced
  52. computer user, we recommend you consult your computer
  53. dealer in order to change your CMOS configuration.
  54. If you do feel comfortable changing your CMOS
  55. configuration, first reboot your computer and hold
  56. down the DELETE key as it reboots. Then choose
  57. "Chipset" from the Setup options. Click on "Alternate
  58. Instructions" to turn that option ON. Press ESC and
  59. choose "Save changes and Exit."
  60.  
  61. In addition, Tactical space combat will run slower
  62. because of the NexGen's lack of a math coprocessor.
