  26. 2.    Installing The Patch
  27.  
  28. In order for the new exe to run properly, you must have Heroes of Might & 
  29. Magic installed on your hard drive.  Simply copy the new HEROES.EXE into your
  30. Heroes directory (i.e. C:\HEROES) on your hard drive.  The only visible
  31. indication of a change is that the opening text will now read 
  32.  
  33.    Loading Heroes of Might and Magic (v1.2)...
  34.  
  35. You are now ready to go.  Have fun!!!

  42. 3. Running under DOS
  43.  
  44. DOS users are still encouraged to disable EMM386 when running Heroes.
  45.  
  46. To do so:
  47.  
  48.    1. Type EMM386 OFF at your command prompt
  49.  
  50.       If EMM386 reports InActive then Heroes should run properly.
  51.  
  52.       Note: You will need to type EMM386 OFF everytime you reboot 
  53.             your computer.

  55.    or 2. Try REMing out EMM386 in your CONFIG.SYS:
  56.  
  57.       type the following at your command prompt and hit ENTER.
  58.  
  59.          EDIT C:\CONFIG.SYS   
  60.  
  61.             (This will edit your system configuration)

  63.          find the line 
  64.  
  65.             DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE 
  66.  
  67.          or the like and add to the front of the line REM ... i.e.
  68.  
  69.             REM DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE
  70.  
  71.          go to the File Menu and Select Exit and answer YES to save 
  72.          the changes.

  74.          If you need to re-install EMM386 for any reason you can remove
  75.          the REM at the front of the line.

  77.       You will need to re-boot your computer for this change to take effect.

  86. 4. Running under Windows 95
  87.  
  88. While Heroes of Might and Magic should run fine on most Windows 95
  89. setups, if you have problems, try running Windows 95 in MS-DOS mode.

  91. To do so, in Windows 95, click on

  93. Start - ShutDown - Restart the Computer in MS-DOS mode.
