- Here is a list of manual updates, additional information,
- and game hints to keep in mind while playing Hell.
- Please note especially a few alterations to the game
- interface that were made since the manual was printed.
- It is important that you read this brief file.
-
- STRIKE THE ESC KEY TO EXIT THIS README FILE.
-
- If you are having video problems, please read section 8
- of this file.
-
- 1. As noted in the manual, you can play the game as one
- of two characters, Rachel or Gideon, but both characters
- will appear and move about the map. To control the character
- you are playing, move the mouse to where you would
- like the character to move and left click. The player
- you are not controlling will follow.
-
- IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE CHARACTER YOU ARE PLAYING CAN
- BECOME STUCK BETWEEN AN OBJECT AND THE CHARACTER
- YOU ARE NOT PLAYING. TO MOVE THE CHARACTER YOU
- ARE NOT PLAYING, HOLD THE CTRL KEY DOWN AND LEFT CLICK
- THE MOUSE ON THE SPOT TO WHERE YOU WANT THE OTHER
- CHARACTER TO MOVE.
-
- 2. When your party is full and you attempt to
- recruit another character you will be prompted as to
- which character you wish to dismiss. If you do not
- wish to dismiss any current member of your party,
- strike the ESC key. Your party will remain unchanged.
-
- 3. The explanation of the Examine option (found on
- page 19 of the manual) on the main tool bar is no longer
- current. Selecting "Examine" from the main tool bar
- will produce a list of all the objects and characters
- that can be examined at a location. Right click on the
- name of the item to hear its description.
- The list of items and characters also helps to orient
- you to a location by indicating everything that can be
- interacted with at the location. As noted in the manual,
- you can also examine an object or NPC by placing
- the mouse cursor over an object or NPC and right
- clicking.
-
- 4. Combat has significantly changed since the manual
- was written. Combat is fully animated and no longer
- requires that you select various weapons with which
- to fight. You will be provided with clues during the
- game for strategies for surviving combat.
-
- 5. To use one object on another while at the
- character inventory screens, left click on the
- object to be used, move it over the object you wish
- to use it on, and right click.
-
- 6. The inventory pop-up window (see page 12 of the
- manual) will not appear if Rachel and Gideon are not
- carrying any objects. You can, however, still access
- the inventory screen.
-
- 7. When accessing any of the computers in the game
- world, you will encounter special interfaces. When
- necessary, up and down arrows will appear to scroll
- text within a message. You must right click the
- mouse to advance at the end of a message's text.
-
- 8. Hell may not work with various Diamond Viper
- cards. If you are having problems with Hell with
- a Diamond Viper card or any other type of video card,
- try choosing the 512K video mode by clicking on the
- 'VESA' line in the setup program. Please contact
- Take 2 customer support for additional information.
- Please consult the manual for Customer Support's
- telephone number and address.
-
- 9. As any veteran gamer knows it is a good idea to
- save your current game frequently. Rachel and Gideon
- can be killed or arrested at various points in the
- game. Be certain to examine all objects at a location
- and to interact with each NPC.
-
- 10. If you have a CD-ROM drive with a SCSI interface and
- the drive appears to have problems opening files, jerky
- video display, or the sound cuts out when speaking
- to a NPC, verify in your CONFIG.SYS file any device
- driver for the CD-ROM drive has not been loaded high.
-
- 11. Make sure in your CONFIG.SYS file the line 'FILES='
- is set to at least 30.
-
- 12. Good luck. Have fun. Remember, it's not the heat;
- it's the humidity.
