Cooking For Today program icon to start.
• The CD-Rom must be in the CD-Drive in order to run!
• You must run the program from your Hard Disk and not for the CD-Rom for it to function
properly.
NOTE: THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE ONLY NECESSARY IF YOU EXPERIENCE CHOPPY OR LOW
QUALITY VIDEOS.
Step 1 If the QuickTime™ extension has not yet been installed in your Extensions folder or the version you have installed is older than 1.6.1, copy the QuickTime™ extension and the QuickTime™ Musical Instruments extension (and also the QuickTime™ PowerPlug extension if you have a PowerMac) from the Utilities folder on the CD into your Extensions folder. (To check the version of QuickTime™, highlight its icon in the Extensions folder by clicking on it ONCE and select "Get Info" from the File menu at the top of your screen). If the QuickTime™ extension already in your Extensions folder is version 1.6.1 or newer, you do not need to copy the QuickTime™ extension from the CD.
Step 2 If you are using QuickTime 2.0 (either copied from our CD or already in your Extensions folder), you will also need to copy the Apple Multimedia Tuner from the Utilities folder on the CD to your Extensions folder. (Without the Apple Multimedia Tuner, the videos will not play well using QuickTime 2.0)
Step 3 Restart your computer. Once your computer has restarted, you can run the program as described in the above steps.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If you are experiencing problems running Cooking For Today check the following:
• Make sure the program has enough memory available
In the Finder, go to the Apple menu (top left of screen) and select "About this Macintosh." The "Largest Unused Block" should be at least 4,096k. If it is below 4,096k, make sure that no other applications are running. (You can be check this by clicking on the Macintosh icon on the top-right corner of your menu bar. "Finder" should be the only application listed.) If no other applications are running and your Largest Unused Block is still below 4,096k, you should turn on or increase your virtual memory.
Turning on Virtual Memory
In the Finder, go to the Apple menu (top left of screen), select the "Control Panels" and then select the item "Memory." On the pop-up panel, find the Virtual Memory section and switch it on. You will need to restart your computer to have this change take effect. (Note: You can change the size of the Virtual Memory in the box on the right side. Usually, the default setting is sufficient.)
SPECIAL NOTES
• It is NOT recommended that you run programs simultaneously with Cooking For Today. If
our program is forced to run in the background, it can cause conflicts with applications in the foreground.
• To avoid printing problems, be sure to turn background printing OFF. This can be done via the Chooser under
the Apple Menu at the top left corner of the screen.
• Printer sharing should also be turned off. This can be done via the Chooser under the Apple menu.
• Performance problems may arise when Appletalk is on and you are connected to a network. If you
notice slowdowns during use, make sure you are disconnected from a network.
• You should be sure to always run the program from the Hard Disk. You will be unable to save any personal
information such as Personal Collection recipes or Meal Planner schedules if you run the program from the
CD-Rom. This is because the program is unable to write to a Read-Only media, the CD-Rom itself.
• To avoid database conflicts ensure that File Sharing is turned off. This can be done via the File Sharing Control
Panel.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR POWERMACS
Best results are obtained if:
1) Modern Memory Manager is turned off
2) Virtual Memory is turned on. The lower the Virtual Memory size, the better the performance.
3) Cache Size is set to 128k or less (sound tends to break up the larger the cache size)
* The Memory Control Panel controls each of these features.
