  5. "Neuroanatomy: An Electronic Atlas" is designed to be a learn
  6. and review tool. It reviews the "Coronal," "Axial," "Sagittal,"
  7. and "Surface" sections of the human brain.
  8.  
  9.                *** NAVIGATING THE ATLAS ***
  10.  
  11.  
  12. General Information:
  13. =======================
  14.  
  15. Once you have read this general section, review the
  16. navigating section on either mouse manipulation or keyboard
  17. manipulation of the program.
  18.  
  19. When the BRAIN ATLAS "main menu" appears, this screen
  20. shows four brain sections.  The sections in the BRAIN ATLAS
  21. program all work the same way.  The red lines show the
  22. approximate placement of the individual brain cross-sections.
  23.  
  24. Now select the desired brain section. A full screen picture of the
  25. selected brain section appears.  Select the desired cross-section.
  26. The selected cross-section appears.
  27.

  29. The upper left corner displays a small picture of
  30. the brain section with the selected cross-section position
  31. delineated with a red line.
  32.  
  33. Above the picture of the cross-section, an identifying bar
  34. labels the section, cross-section number and which "page" of the
  35. list of structures is shown in the chart to the left of the
  36. cross-section picture.
  37.  
  38. Selecting a structure from the list causes a large red arrow to
  39. appear on the cross-section, pointing to the identified structure.
  40.  
  41. At the bottom of the list of structures four "buttons"
  42. appear: "Test," "Options," "PgUp," and "PgDn."
  43.  
  44.   Test:
  45.         Selecting the "Test" button moves you into the
  46.         other main function of this program -- "testing"
  47.         your retention of the cross-section you've just reviewed.
  48.  
  49.         The screen displays a picture of the cross-section you
  50.         were just studying, but the list of structures is
  51.         replaced by the following choices:

  54.           - Select By Multiple Choice
  55.           - Show Answer
  56.           - Next
  57.           - Stop
  58.           - Quick Review
  59.  
  60.         The top right of the screen displays "QUIZ," and
  61.         an arrow on the picture points to a randomly
  62.         selected structure as your first test "question."
  63.  
  64.         Select By Multiple Choice:
  65.             This function presents you with the list of
  66.             structures belonging to this cross-section.
  67.  
  68.        [NOTE: The displayed list may hold more choices than actually
  69.        appear on the screen. Additional choices can be seen by using
  70.        the scroll bar on the right of the list. To scroll, you have
  71.        several options.  With a mouse you can either click on the
  72.        arrow pointing up or down on the scroll bar or you can use
  73.        the keyboard. Press the Page Up or Page Down keys, or you
  74.        can press and hold the up or down arrow keys.]

  76.        Select your answer.  A pop-up window appears indicating if
  77.        your choice was correct or incorrect.
  78.  
  79.        Show Answer:   Select this option to see the correct name of
  80.                       the brain structure indicated by the arrow.
  81.  
  82.        Next:          Select "Next" to have the BRAIN ATLAS pick
  83.                       another random structure on the brain
  84.                       cross-section.
  85.  
  86.        Quick Review:  This choice permits you to review quickly the
  87.                       structures on this cross-section.
  88.  
  89.        Stop:          Select "Stop" to exit the "Test" option and
  90.                       return to the previous screen of the selected
  91.                       brain cross-section.
  92.  
  93.        Options:       Selecting this button causes a pull-down menu
  94.                       to appear that lists the four sections of the
  95.                       BRAIN ATLAS and an option to leave the
  96.                       program. (This is in addition to the function
  97.                       key "F3=Quit.")
  98.  
  99.        PgUp:
  100.         Selecting this button will display the previous "page"
  101.         of list structures if you are currently not showing "page"
  102.         one. If you are on "page" one, PgUp returns you to the
  103.         previous cross-section.
  104.  
  105.        PgDn:
  106.         Selecting this button will display subsequent "pages" of
  107.         the list of structures if you are not currently on the
  108.         last "page."  If you are, the next cross-section is displayed.
  109.  
  110. The function key bar appears at the bottom of the screen and at the
  111. bottom of the "Test" screen. The following function keys appear:
  112.  
  113.         Esc=Cancel: This key cancels any pop-up or pull-down
  114.                     window that appeared.
  115.  
  116.         F1=Help:    This key displays this HELP file.
  117.  
  118.         F3=Exit:    This key exits the program, returning you to
  119.                     your system prompt.
  120.  
  121. Navigating With A Mouse:
  122. ========================
  123.  
  124. With a mouse connected, a pop-up window appears after the
  125. three title screens and asks if you wish to use the mouse.
  126. You may answer "yes" or "no" either through pressing the
  127. appropriate "y" or "n" key, or, you may click the mouse button
  128. on your choice.
  129.  
  130. [NOTE: With a 2- or 3-button mouse use the left button.
  131. Unlike other applications you may be familiar with, the
  132. BRAIN ATLAS only uses a single click on the mouse to
  133. manipulate the program.]

  135. On the "main menu" screen, the arrow changes to an open box
  136. in any of the four pictures.  Click anywhere in the
  137. picture to select the section.
  138.  
  139. Examine the picture on the screen and choose the
  140. desired cross-section by clicking directly on the RED line.
  141.  
  142. On the list of structures, move the arrow to highlight
  143. your selection and click the mouse.
  144.  
  145. On the "Test" and "Quick Review" options, the arrow changes
  146. to an "X" when making a choice.
  147.  
  148. Navigating With The Keyboard:
  149. =============================
  150. On the "main menu" screen select the Brain section you wish
  151. to view by entering the corresponding number. Select the
  152. Brain cross-section that you wish to view by entering the
  153. corresponding number.
  154.  
  155. List of Structures: Press the keyboard button labeled "Page Up"
  156.                     or "Page Down" to display additional "pages"
  157.                     of the list.
  158.  
  159.                     Use the "up" and "down" arrow keys on your
  160.                     keyboard to highlight specific list
  161.                     structure items.
  162.  
  163.                     [NOTE: For the BRAIN ATLAS to accept your
  164.                     selection, you must highlight the item
  165.                     and press <Enter>.]

  167. Test and Options Buttons:
  168.                    Press the highlighted text character on the
  169.                    "Test" and "Options" buttons (eg, "T" or
  170.                    "O").  In the "Test" section, press the
  171.                    highlighted text character of your choice.
  172.                    In the "Options" section, use the up and
  173.                    down arrow keys to highlight your selection
  174.                    and press <Enter>.

  181. environment for ease of navigation.  The program uses external
  182. commands and functions to enhance its operation. Attempts to
  183. manipulate or alter its files may render the program
