  10.  Loderunner requires 2 megabytes of EMS (expanded memory) and a VESA
  11.  driver (if your video card does not have built in VESA support) to
  12.  run in 256 colors. There is an automatic VESA detection utility in
  13.  the INSTALL program which will try to load a VESA driver if your card
  14.  does not support VESA through its own hardware.
  15.  
  16.  Since Loderunner requires 2 MB of expanded memory to run in 256 clor
  17.  mode you will need to have 4 MB of RAM in your machine and allocate
  18.  2 MB's of EMS. If you are unsure how to do this try the bootdisk maker
  19.  available through the INSTALL program. The following is an example of
  20.  what the first two lines in your CONFIG.SYS would look like in order to
  21.  support 2 MB of EMS.
  22.  
  23.  If you are using MS-DOS 5.0 which is the minimum system requirement the
  24.  first two lines would be as follows:
  25.  DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
  26.  DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM 2048

  32.  If you follow the troubleshooting steps below and a VESA driver will
  33.  still not work with your system you may need to contact the manufacturer
  34.  of your video card to obtain the correct driver.

  39.   After installation if you need to change your sound card settings do the
  40.   following:

  42.   1. Change to the game directory
  43.   2. Type: SETSOUND
  44.   3. Follow the on-screen instructions

  50.  PROBLEM:

  52.  When I start Loderunner it looks like it is black and white.

  54.  SOLUTION:
  55.  
  56.  Make sure that there is 2MB of EMS available.
  57.  Make sure a VESA driver is loaded.
  58.  
  59.  PROBLEM:

  61.  The INSTALL program won't load a VESA driver for me.
  62.  
  63.  SOLUTION:

  65.  Try switching to the VESA subdirectory on disk 5 and see if there
  66.  is a subdirectory for your card. If there is, go to that subdirectory
  67.  try running the VESA driver. It will usually have a .COM or .EXE after
  68.  the name of the driver.
  69.  
  70.  NOTE: Even if your video card does not match one of the subdirectories
  71.        you still may be able to load one of the drivers. Try the TSENG
  72.        directory first and then go through the others to see if another
  73.        VESA driver will work with your machine.

  75.        If you are connected to an on-line service such as Compuserve or
  76.        Prodigy the manufacturer of your card may have an area there that
  77.        you can download a driver from.

  79.  PROBLEM:

  81.  Now that I know which driver to use what do I do with it?
  82.  
  83.  SOLUTION:
  84.  
  85.  You will need to load that driver before running Loderunner, there are
  86.  a few ways to do this as follows.
  87.  
  88.  1. If your driver is named VESA.EXE, copy it to your game directory
  89.     and type VESA before starting Loderunner
  90.  
  91.  2. Use the following steps to create a batch file to load the VESA
  92.     driver and start the game.
  93.  
  94.      1. Change to the game directory.
  95.  
  96.      2. Type: copy con lr.bat  {press enter}
  97.      3. Type: vesa.exe         {press enter}
  98.      4. Type: loderunn.exe     {press enter}
  99.      5. Press F6               {press enter}
  100.  
  101.   Another option is to create a bootdisk using the INSTALL program and
  102.   add the VESA.EXE to the last line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. To do this
  103.   use a Text editor such as MS-DOS 5.0 and above's EDIT utility.

  105.   PROBLEM:
  106.  
  107.   Sounds and Music aren't playing.
  108.  
  109.   SOLUTION:
  110.  
  111.   Go to the game directory and type: setsound
  112.  
  113.   You will then be prompted to select and test your sound and music card.
  114.   When you select the proper card it will ask if you are ready to test the
  115.   sounds and music, if they do not play correctly go back and change
  116.   your selection.
  117.  
  118.   Make sure that speakers are connected and that the volume control (if
  119.   any) is adjusted peoperly on your sound card.

  121.   Make sure that sounds and music are not turned off in the game, press
  122.   F1 at the main menu to see how to toggle sounds and music.
