  5. What is SolarCht?

  8. SolarCht.EXE is a utility program for players of "Solar Winds" (TM)
  9. by EPIC.  It allows you to edit a saved-game file to give yourself
  10. more reactor core energy.

  13. Installing SolarCht

  16. Copy SOLARCHT.EXE to the subdirectory where you installed the rest of the
  17. files for "Solar Winds".

  20. Using SolarCht

  23. To use SolarCht, you first play "Solar Winds" and save a game before
  24. exiting back to DOS.  Remember the position number you used to save this game
  25. because you need it to run SolarCht.  Once you have saved a game, type:

  29. at the DOS prompt to see a list of all the options that are available to you.
  30. Follow the instructions and you should have no trouble editing your saved
  31. game.

  37. A good place to start is to give your ship 100 more gigawatts.  Let's say
  38. you saved a game in the 0 position.  To give yourself more energy, type:

  40. solarcht 0 100

  42. That's all there is to it!  Type "solatcht" by itself to get a list of all
  43. the available options and experiment for yourself!  Remember to make a
  44. backup of a .DAT saved game before running SolarCht so you can go back to
  45. it later if you want to.

  51. I have only tried this on the first of the two-part series of "Solar Winds"
  52. adventures, but it will probably work on the second part as well.  Backup your
  53. files first before testing just in case.

  56. Registering SolarCht
  57. --------------------

  59. Print out the file ORDER.FRM to get a quick order form for registering
  60. SolarCht.  If you register, you will receive the latest version and the
  61. Borland C++ source code used to make it.  The cost of the diskette and the
  62. mailing charges are all included in the $2 registration fee.  If you find
  63. SolarCht useful, upload it to other bulletin boards so other players can
  64. have an easier time exploring the universe of "Solar Winds"!
