  1. WinJPEG v.2.5 is a shareware image viewer with image processing and
  2. conversion capabilities for Microsoft Windows 3.x.  It has the following
  3. features:

  5. - display JPEG, TIFF, Targa, GIF, PCX, OS/2 BMP, Windows BMP, or PPM images
  6. - export an image to JPEG, TIFF, Targa, GIF, PCX, OS/2 BMP, Windows BMP,
  7.   or PPM format
  8. - display an image in monochrome, 16 color, 256 color, hicolor, or
  9.   truecolor display modes
  10. - display an image with its full palette
  11. - display an image in full screen mode
  12. - print an image with scaling or with best proportional fit on the page
  13. - color balance: red, green, and blue adjustment
  14. - hue, saturation, and brightness adjustment
  15. - color to grayscale conversion
  16. - gamma correction
  17. - image rotation, vertical or horizontal flip, image resizing, and image
  18.   cropping
  19. - batch file compression of GIF, TIFF, or TARGA files to JPEG File
  20.   Interchange Format (JFIF) with optional smoothing
  21. - slideshow: display selected files sequentially with a cycle option
  22. - image buffering in a cyclic slideshow
  23. - copy a portion of or the entire image  to the clipboard, paste an
  24.   image from the clipboard
  25. - capture a window, the client area of a window, or a portion of or
  26.   the entire desktop
  27. - support for Windows 3.1 features like drag-drop and common dialogs
  28. - support for file name extension association and starting a slideshow

  31. There are two versions of WinJPEG: a 386 version for 386's or better and
  32. a 286 one for 286's or better.  The shareware version is a fully
  33. functional 286 version. The 386 version can be obtained by registering
  34. WinJPEG.

  51. DISTRIBUTION CONDITIONS
  52. You are free to distribute this shareware version of WinJPEG as long as the
  53. following conditions are met:
  54.   1) The distributed archive must contain ONLY the files listed above.
  55.   2) The contents of this archive are NOT MODIFIED in any way.
  56.   3) This version is not to be sold.  However, a reasonable disk copying fee
  57.      is permitted.
  58.   4) This version is not to be bundled with a commercially sold package
  59.      without permission from the authors.

  62. INSTALLATION NOTES
  63. If you associate a file extension with WinJPEG, you can double click on
  64. a file with that extension in File Manager and WinJPEG will
  65. automatically display that file.  There are two ways to associate an
  66. extension with WinJPEG.  The easiest way is to run File Manager, to
  67. click on a file with the desired extension, and to select the Associate
  68. command from the File Menu.  Then type "winjpeg.exe" with the
  69. appropriate path (e.g. c:\winjpeg\winjpeg.exe).  The other way is to
  70. modify the Extensions section of the "win.ini" file in your Windows
  71. directory.  Your "win.ini" may look like this after you modify it:

  82. Note that you don't have to use the suggested extensions (e.g. you can use
  83. .jpe instead of .jpg); WinJPEG will automatically detect the file format.

  85. If you are using Windows 3.0, you must copy "commdlg.dll" and
  86. "shell.dll" to your Windows system directory(e.g. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM).

  88. If WinJPEG GPF's, we recommend that you restart Windows before
  89. running WinJPEG again.

  92. HOW TO REGISTER
  93. If you use WinJPEG for more than 14 days, you are expected to register
  94. WinJPEG.  When you register, you will receive the latest 286 and  386
  95. versions of WinJPEG, a user manual, and a collection of JPEG images (we
  96. will put as many as we can fit on 1 1.44M 3 1/2" floppy or  on 4 360k 5
  97. 1/4" floppies).  Also, the registered version does not have the
  98. reminder-to-register screen at the start.
  99.  
  100. The registration fee is $25.  Massachusetts residents, add 5% sales tax
  101. to the registration fee.  US residents, add $4 for shipping and 
  102. handling; non-US residents, add $8 for shipping and handling.  If you
  103. want WinJPEG e-mailed to your account instead of having it  physically
  104. mailed to you, there is no extra shipping charge.  If you are paying
  105. with a Visa or MasterCard, add 10% to this subtotal.  The 10% is the
  106. processing fee that we get charged for credit card transactions.

  108. Registered users of WinJPEG can purchase the latest version for $5. 
  109. Shipping and handling fees described above apply to these updates  as
  110. well.  Updates are available when you see a new shareware version.

  112. For e-mail registrations, you need to use a program called "uudecode" to
  113. decode the uuencoded file that we e-mail to you.  For your  information,
  114. a uuencoded file is a binary file that is converted to text by a program
  115. called "uuencode."  If your mail system rejects large  messages, we will
  116. split the uuencoded file into smaller parts before mailing the parts to
  117. you, and you will need to edit the messages with a  text editor before
  118. you can decode them.  Compuserve, America Online, and Prodigy, for
  119. example, do not permit large e-mail messages.   Also, the uuencoded file
  120. is rather large; it's approximately 1 MB for WinJPEG.  Compuserve users
  121. may find it less expensive to receive  WinJPEG via U.S. Mail.
  122.  
  123. Registrations with the incorrect fee or with non-US currency will be
  124. returned.  Foreign registrations must send US currency or a check  drawn
  125. from a US bank.
