  13. The Sample Files located on the Sample diskettes are provided for your
  14. convenience.  These files can be copied to your fixed drive or accessed
  15. from the flexible diskette drive.  The files in the Sample-B and Sample-C
  16. directories are black & white and color versions of the same files,
  17. respectively.

  23. If you have received 5 1/4 inch diskettes and require 3 1/2 inch diskettes,
  24. please return the 5 1/4 inch diskettes with your registration card to the
  25. address below for replacement.

  35. MICROFIELD GRAPHICS BOARD

  37. If you are using the Microfield graphics board in 1280 X 1024 mode
  38. you may encounter a problem with the handles on objects.  Objects may appear 
  39. to be selected when they are not and vice versa.  To correct this problem,
  40. add a line to the WIN.INI file (which is located in the directory that
  41. contains your copy of Microsoft Windows).  After you have installed 
  42. Arts & Letters add the following line in the [a&L] section: "Handles=1". 
  43. Save the WIN.INI file then restart Windows for the changes to take effect.

  47. DOCUMENTATION UPDATE
  48.  
  49. Toolbox Highlight.  If you wish to turn off the white highlight on the
  50. tools in the toolbox you can add the following line in the [a&l] section
  51. of the WIN.INI file: "Tool emboss=0".  Save the WIN.INI file then restart
  52. Windows for the change to take effect.
  53.  
  54. Object Cache.  In the View menu under Quick Display there is an option to
  55. cache objects within your available memory. It defaults to "On" and will 
  56. speed up the screen redraw time for TIFF images, Warp objects, and text 
  57. bound to a path. (24-bit TIFF images are not affected.) Once the objects 
  58. are cached they will redraw at optimum speed from memory. The cached 
  59. objects can be cleared from memory by selecting the "Clear" option under 
  60. Quick Display-Object Cache. If you are operating in a low memory situation 
  61. you may want to turn the Object Cache "Off" to conserve your available 
  62. memory.

  64. Show Warps.  The Show Warps option in the View menu under Quick Display
  65. has been removed.  The addition of the Object Cache (see above) eliminated
  66. the need for a separate Show Warps toggle.
  67.  
  68. Hardware and Software fonts.  The Windows WIN.INI file contains separate
  69. parameters for each printer and each printer port installed. For example,
  70. if you have a PostScript printer configured for output to LPT1 and COM2,
  71. your WIN.INI file will contain a [PostScript, LPT1] and a [PostScript,
  72. COM2] section.  In order to print a document that contains hardware or
  73. software fonts, the fonts must be installed in the section corresponding
  74. to the currently selected printer and port.  If you use the Arts & Letters
  75. "To File" command to print to a file, the fonts must be installed in the
  76. section corresponding to the selected printer on the port FILENAME. A
  77. convenient method of installing fonts to various printer/port combinations
  78. is to install the fonts once, then load the WIN.INI file into Notepad and
  79. Copy and Paste the font information to all of the desired sections.
