- USING THE INSTALLATION PROGRAM
- ------------------------------
- The Autodesk Animator Pro installation program, INSTALL,
- allows you to choose between three levels of installation. "Full
- Installation" installs all the files and requires 11 megabytes of
- hard disk space. "Executables Only" installs the Autodesk
- Animator Pro executables, the display drivers, the RESOURCE and
- RESOURCE\FONT subdirectories, Flipaper, Flitape, and Pixelpop. It
- requires 5 megabytes of hard disk space. "Player Only" installs
- ANIPLAY.EXE and the RESOURCE subdirectory and requires only 1
- megabyte of space.
-
- Before you run INSTALL, determine where on your hard disk you
- want Autodesk Animator Pro installed and whether or not you have
- enough space to install it. Be sure to allow several megabytes of
- additional disk space for the files that you will create as you
- use Autodesk Animator Pro. You can use the DOS "chkdsk" command
- before installing to check the space available on your hard disk
- drive.
-
- If you want to perform the exercises in the Autodesk Animator
- Pro Tutorial you must do a "Full Installation" in order to install
- all the files required by the Tutorial. They are included with
- the Sample files.
-
- During the course of the installation, you will be prompted
- for the appropriate floppy disk(s) necessary for the level of
- installation you have chosen. INSTALL copies the files from the
- floppy disks to your hard disk in the subdirectory of your choice
- and then uncompresses them. INSTALL will automatically check your
- hard disk space and alert you if not enough space is available.
-
- Installation Procedure
-
- INSTALL is designed to run from Drive A:. Perform the
- following steps to install all or part of Autodesk Animator Pro:
-
- 1. Insert Disk 1 into Drive A:.
- 2. From the DOS prompt, type "a:install" and press <Enter>.
- 3. Follow the INSTALL prompts to insert the floppy disks
- required for the level of installation you've chosen.
- 4. If you are installing the "Player Only", a message will
- appear after the files have been installed on your hard
- disk. It tells you that the installation is complete and
- prompts you to hit any key. Press any key to exit the
- INSTALL program.
- 5. If you have chosen either "Full Installation" or
- "Executables Only", a message will appear informing you
- that a file called "pp.bat" is being created. You are
- also prompted to press any key to continue. Press any key.
- The "pp.bat" file is created in the PIXELPOP subdirectory
- of the directory where you are installing Autodesk
- Animator Pro.
- 6. A new message tells you that the installation is complete
- and prompts you to hit any key. Press any key to exit the
- INSTALL program.
-
-
- USING THE VESA.DRV DISPLAY DRIVER
- ---------------------------------
- You will need to run a BIOS extension program before you can use
- your VESA compatible Super VGA display board with Autodesk
- Animator Pro's VESA.DRV display driver.
-
- A BIOS extension program is usually included with your display
- board. BIOS extension programs for a number of popular display
- boards are provided with Autodesk Animator Pro in the ANI\VESA
- directory. In the ANI\VESA directory are sub-directories
- representing various display board and graphics chip
- manufacturers. The BIOS extension programs are located in these
- sub-directories as either .COM or .EXE files.
-
- The BIOS extension program is a terminate and stay resident (TSR)
- program that is run before starting Autodesk Animator Pro.
- You may want to include a statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
- that will run the TSR program upon starting your computer.
-
- If you run Autodesk Animator Pro while your VESA compatible
- display board is installed and have not run the BIOS extension
- program, an error message will appear stating the program does
- not recognize the VESA configuration and cannot use the VESA.DRV
- display driver. Press any key and Autodesk Animator Pro will
- default to an internal MCGA/VGA 320x200 driver.
-
- We have tested the following Super VGA display boards and have
- found them to work correctly with Autodesk Animator Pro with the
- following BIOS extensions:
-
- Paradise VGA 1024 ani\vesa\paradise\vesa.exe
- Video7 VRAM ani\vesa\video7\v7vesa.com
- Video7 VRAM II ani\vesa\video7\v7vesa.com
- Video7 VRAM 1024i ani\vesa\video7\v7vesa.com
- Willow Geo ani\vesa\tseng\tlivesa.com

- FLIPAPER
- --------
- FLIPAPER is an utility which allows you to print Autodesk
- Animator Pro or Autodesk Animator flics to three different
- "devices". You can render to an HP PaintJet printer, or to the
- screen, or you can send it to a Targa file.
-
- FLIPAPER has many options for rendering your flic files.
- To list the options type:
- "flipaper<Enter>".
-
- For further details about FLIPAPER, refer to FP_SPEC8.DOC in the
- FLIPAPER subdirectory.
-
- To print to the printer, set the RHPADI variable. Type "set
- RHPADI=rdppj.exp". To print to the screen you need to set the
- RDPADI variable. Type "set RDPADI=rcpvga41.exp". To print to a
- Targa file, use the '-o' option.
-
- Note: The current version of RDPPJ.EXP prints very dark.
- This will be fixed in the final release of the product.
-
- FLITAPE
- -------
- The display drivers, RDPTARGA.EXP, RDPTARGP.EXP, required to run
- FLITAPE are not included in this release.
-
- PIXELPOP
- --------
- PixelPop currently does not work on Freelance version 3.01 or
- higher.
-
- Since PixelPop will only screen capture to GIF files, ignore the
- other file formats listed on the screen. The final version will
- only list GIF as a file format.
-
- F2 for basic help will not be included since it contains informa-
- tion that will already be contained in the documentation.
-
- The "Un-install" option at the bottom of the opening screen will
- be changed to "Release", a more accurate description of removing
- PixelPop from memory.
-
- A list of video modes will be included in the Force the Mode op-
- tion on the FormScreen (of the Gif option).
