- MICROSOFT PUBLISHER NETWORK INSTALLATION -- ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
-
- You need to read this information if you have installed a SHARED copy
- of Publisher. See the Network Administrator's Guide for more information
- on what a SHARED installation is.
-
- There are two sections in this document:
-
- A. Setting the Publisher files on the server to READ-ONLY status.
- B. Installing a SHARED copy of Publisher using a private copy of
- Microsoft Windows.
- =====================================================================
-
-
- A. Setting the Publisher files on the server to READ-ONLY status.
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------
- In order for Publisher to function properly on a network, and to allow
- all users on the network the ability to run Publisher, the Publisher files
- must be READ-ONLY files.
-
- To set the Publisher files on the server to READ-ONLY status:
- 1. Connect to the server that contains the Publisher files.
- Note: You must have read/write privileges for the directory that
- contains the Publisher files.
- 2. In the Microsoft Windows File Manager, change to the disk drive
- containing the Publisher application files.
- 3. Open the directory containing the Publisher files.
- 4. From the File menu, choose Select All.
- 5. From the File menu, choose Change Attributes.
- 6. Choose the Read Only check box.
- 7. Choose the OK button.
- 8. Repeat steps 3-7 for the subdirectories \CLIPART, \BORDERS,
- \TEMPLATE, and \PAGEWIZ in the Publisher directory on the server.
-
-
- B. Installing a SHARED copy of Publisher using a private copy of
- Microsoft Windows.
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------
- Read this section ONLY if you were instructed by the setup program to
- consult this README file and do the procedures in section B. Do not
- do any of the steps below unless the Setup program specifically
- requested that you read section B of the README file.
-
- The administrator setup was run using a private (non-shared) copy of
- Windows. Therefore, the setup program could not determine if some
- users will be using a shared copy of Windows or if no users will be
- using a shared copy of Windows. If every user will use a private copy
- of Windows, you're setup is now complete.
- If any users will use a shared copy of Windows:
-
- Run the administrator setup again, using the shared copy of Windows
- that some workstations are using. Note: You will need read/write
- privileges to the network Windows directory.
-
- OR
-
- Manually copy the following files:
-
- Note: Do the following procedure ONLY when the file in the Publisher
- directory is NEWER than the corresponding file in the shared Windows
- directory. Be sure to rename the files as shown below. It is
- recommended that the shared copy of Windows should not be in use
- while copying these files.
