  5.   This QEMM 7 technote is an abridged version of a technical
  6.   bulletin that is available through our standard support channels.
  7.   The information contained in this version pertains ONLY to QEMM
  8.   version 7.0.  If you need information relating to earlier versions
  9.   of QEMM you can obtain the unabridged version from the following

  20.   This is a very general guide to troubleshooting QEMM, and
  21.   provides either quick fixes or references for additional
  22.   information.  See the Appendix for information on obtaining
  23.   technical bulletins discussed in this document.

  25.   PLEASE NOTE:  The information contained in this technical
  26.   bulletin pertains ONLY to QEMM version 7.0.  If you require
  27.   information relating to earlier versions of QEMM, you should

  31.   PRELIMINARIES:

  51.   Exception 13 errors can occur for a wide variety of reasons,
  52.   almost all of which are addressed here.  If you wish to learn
  53.   more about the causes of Exception 13 errors, refer to the
  54.   technote EXCEPT13.TEC; for detailed troubleshooting, refer to
  55.   EX13FLOW.TEC.

  57.   There is a line in your CONFIG.SYS that reads:
  58.  
  59.     DEVICE=C:\QEMM\QEMM386.SYS [parameters]
  60.  
  61.   Steps 1-6 in this technote involve editing the [parameters] on
  62.   this line, and nothing else.  Every time you change the
  63.   parameters on this line, you must re-boot your computer for them
  64.   to take effect.
  65.  
  66.   1)  Remove QEMM by placing the word "rem" before the word
  67.   "device" on this line; re-boot.  If this does not solve your
  68.   problem, QEMM is not involved.  If this does solve your problem,
  69.   remove the "rem".
  70.  
  71.   2)  If there is a Stealth parameter ("ST:M" or "ST:F"), remove it
  72.   and reboot. If this solves your problem, refer to our technote
  73.   STEALTH.TEC and follow its instructions.
  74.  
  75.   3)  Add the parameter "DB=2" to this line and re-boot.  If this
  76.   solves your problem, refer to our technote BUS-MAST.TEC for an
  77.   explanation.
  78.  
  79.   4)  Add the parameter "X=A000-FFFF" to this line and re-boot.  If
  80.   this solves your problem, refer to our technote "EXCLUDE.TEC" and
  81.   follow its instructions.

  83.   5)  Remove all the parameters on the QEMM386.SYS line.  Add the
  84.   following ALL ON THE SAME LINE:
  85.  
  86.   DB=2 DMA=128 IOTRAP=64 LD FILL:N CF:N VDS:N MR:N RH:N SH:N
  87.       TR:N XBDA:N UX ON
  88.  
  89.   then reboot.  If this set of parameters solves your problem,
  90.   consult the manual for an explanation of the meaning of these
  91.   parameters.  All of these parameters, even taken together, do not
  92.   seriously handicap the usefulness of QEMM.  All together, they
  93.   cause QEMM to use only 2K more conventional memory, 116K more
  94.   extended memory, and will not cause QEMM to be any slower.  You
  95.   can find the one(s) you need by eliminating them, one at a time.

  97.   6)  If you are still experiencing the problem, add the parameter
  98.   EMS:N and re-boot. If this solves your problem, some program that
  99.   uses expanded memory is probably misbehaving, since this
  100.   parameter causes QEMM to cease providing expanded memory.  Go to
  101.   step 7, and check to see if the other program involved uses EMS.

  103.   7)  Rename your AUTOEXEC.BAT to TEST.BAT.  Make a backup copy of
  104.   your old CONFIG.SYS by typing:
  105.  
  106.          COPY CONFIG.SYS CONFIG.XXX
  107.  
  108.   Edit your CONFIG.SYS so that it contains ONLY the QEMM line and
  109.   "FILES=40", then reboot your computer.  If this solves the
  110.   problem, restore your old CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files one
  111.   line at a time to find out what other program is causing your
  112.   problem.

  114.   8)  If you are not able to solve your problem using these
  115.   techniques and referenced technical bulletins, contact Technical

  118.   problem but are unsure of the consequences of using the

  124.   Many of the technical bulletins discussed in this document were
  125.   installed in your QEMM\TECHNOTE directory when you installed QEMM
  126.   7.0.  Those which are not included with QEMM can be obtained from
