  36.     This file describes the general rules for installing one or two
  37.     internally mounted hard disk drives in a PC or AT environment. Any
  38.     instructions provided by your dealer will supersede the information
  39.     provided here.

  42.         The four connections on the disk drive are:
  43.  
  44.     (A) Power (4-conductor), 1 per disk drive.
  45.     (B) Command (34-conductor ribbon cable), 1 per 2 disk drives.
  46.     (C) Drive select jumper pins, 4 to 8 pair per 1 disk drive.
  47.     (D) Data (22-conductor ribbon cable), 1 per disk drive.

  113.     cable must be connected to each hard disk drive. There is no distinction
  114.     between the power cables for drive 1 or drive 2.

  125.     There are several types of command cables used to connect the hard disk
  126.     to the controller. You will need to determine which of the cables listed
  127.     below matches the cable you are using. The type of cable you are using will
  128.     determine where the drive select jumper should be on your hard disk.

  143.     The pin nearest to the notch on the edge connector is pin 1. Pin 1 on
  144.     the command cable may be identified by any of the following:

  146.     1. A triangle stamped on the connector, OR
  147.     2. A colored stripe on the end conductor of the cable, OR
  148.     3. A keying tab inside the connector (to prevent reverse insertion.)

  177. The cable shown below is designed for use in systems that have two hard
  178. disks, although it can also be used in single hard disk systems. When
  179. attaching the cables to your hard disk and floppy disk drives, please make
  180. note of the following:

  182.     1. The cable used on the floppy drive has the reversed (twisted) wires
  183.         nearest the edge with the colored wire (pin 1), AND
  184.  
  185.     2. The wide (command) cable attached to the hard disk has the twisted (*)
  186.         wires furthest from the edge with the colored wire (pin 1).

  188.   * Your hard disk command cable may not have any twisted wires. If this is
  189.     the case, please see the note below.

  401.     The drive select jumper on your hard disk needs to be set according to
  402.     the command cable used in your system. The proper drive select may be
  403.     determined as follows:
  404.  
  405.     1. If you are using a command cable with a single hard disk connector, the
  406.        drive select jumper should be in the 1st position.
  407.  
  408.     2. If you are using a command cable with connectors for two hard disks and
  409.        wires 25-29 are reversed (twisted) between the two hard drive
  410.        connectors, then BOTH HARD DISKS (*) should have the drive select jumper
  411.        in the 2nd position.
  412.  
  413.     3. If you are using a command cable with connectors for two hard disks and
  414.        none of the wires are reversed (twisted), then the drive select jumper
  415.        should be in the 1st position for drive one and the 2nd position for
  416.        drive two.

  419.       second position react as drive one.
