  2.                A FEW WORDS ABOUT DISKETTES AND DISKETTE DRIVES

  4. Diskettes are manufactured  by coating polyester  (a plastic) with a magnetic
  5. recording  medium  identical  to that  used on  magnetic recording tape.  The
  6. diskette drives in your COMPAQ(R) personal computer  have two recording heads
  7. positioned on either side of the diskette, which doubles the number of tracks
  8. accessible  to the computer  on a given diskette.  Diskettes have  concentric
  9. recording tracks, which are divided into sectors.  The diskette drive locates
  10. data on the diskette by using unique sector and track numbers assigned by the
  11. disk operating system (MS-DOS(R)).
