- A FEW WORDS ABOUT DISKETTES AND DISKETTE DRIVES
-
- Diskettes are manufactured by coating polyester (a plastic) with a magnetic
- recording medium identical to that used on magnetic recording tape. The
- diskette drives in your COMPAQ(R) personal computer have two recording heads
- positioned on either side of the diskette, which doubles the number of tracks
- accessible to the computer on a given diskette. Diskettes have concentric
- recording tracks, which are divided into sectors. The diskette drive locates
- data on the diskette by using unique sector and track numbers assigned by the
- disk operating system (MS-DOS(R)).
