  8. Welcome to the IBM OS/2 2.1 demo!
  9.  
  10.   This demonstration disk has been carefully designed to provide maximum
  11. compatibility under OS/2*, DOS and Windows**. The program should operate
  12. on any 286, 386 or 486 with a standard VGA display, DOS version 3.1 or
  13. higher and a hard drive with about 2 meg FREE.
  14.  
  15. INSTALLATION:
  16.   To install the program, insert the disk into your computer (in this
  17. example we shall assume it's: Drive A and follow the steps below.
  18.  
  19. 1) (Type)  A:INSTALL (if your drive is Drive B - type B:INSTALL)
  20. 2) (Press) ENTER
  21. 3) You will be asked onto which hard drive you want to install the program. 
  22.    One would normally type the letter C at this point to start the 
  23.    installation onto drive C.
  24. 4) The program will then begin installation.  In all but a few rare 
  25.    situations the DEMO will begin, automatically, after installation.  If 
  26.    your configuration precludes auto-start of the DEMO, the installer will
  27.    tell you so. In that case start the DEMO manually as described in the 
  28.    next step.
  29. 5) To run the DEMO again, simply go to the root of the drive the
  30.    program was installed on ( i.e.  C:\ ) and type OS2DEMO.

  32. DELETING THE FILES FROM YOUR HARD DRIVE:
  33.   To remove the DEMO from your hard drive, simply go to the directory
  34. that contains all of the DEMO files and type (or click on) DEINSTAL.
  35. This will ask you first if you're sure you wish to remove the files,
  36. after confirmation it will list the files and then remove them. If
  37. AFTER this process the message "BATCH FILE MISSING" or "BAD COMMAND
  38. OR FILE NAME" may appear, ignore the message the process is completed.

  41. PROBLEMS WITH INSTALLATION?
  42.   In the unlikely event you encounter a problem installing the DEMO
  43. you may review the possible causes below or do a manual installation
  44. (see: MANUAL INSTALLATION)
  45.  
  46. 1) Do you have at least 2 megabytes of FREE space on your hard drive?
  47.    (If not, free up some space by deleting uneeded files or install on
  48.     a different hard drive or computer).
  49. 2) Do you have a VGA (color) monitor? NOT CGA or EGA!
  50.    (Check the manual that came with your monitor).
  51. 3) If installation completed but the program did not begin (you should
  52.    have seen the intro showing a hand moving across the screen) go to
  53.    the directory named OS2DEMO and type OS2DEMO or click on the file
  54.    called OS2DEMO.BAT
  55. 4) If installation could not be completed and/or you are on a Network
  56.    and the program failed to install, see: MANUAL INSTALLATION below.
  57. 5) If you are running any "Terminate and Stay Resident" programs (TSRs)
  58.    there is a very slight possibility they could cause your computer to 
  59.    lock-up when playing the DEMO. A TSR is a small program, such as a 
  60.    calendar or E-Mail program, that is loaded into memory and stays there. 
  61.    These can often cause conflicts with other programs. 
  62.    Solution: Remove any TSR's that are running.

  64. MANUAL INSTALLATION:
  65. 1) To install the program manually first create a directory named OS2DEMO  
  66.    by typing:  MKDIR OS2DEMO        at the C:\ prompt.
  67. 2) Enter the new directory by typing:  CHDIR OS2DEMO
  68. 3) Extract the files from the floppy disk drive A: by typing:  A:OS2DEMO  
  69.    (for floppy drive B, replace A: with B: ).  The files will be extracted.   
  70. 4) To run the demo, type: OS2DEMO    from within this directory.
