- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 47. Help for Spreadsheet ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Use Spreadsheet to use a simple spreadsheet. The spreadsheet has 26 columns
- and 40 rows. Each column and row combination is called a cell and identified
- with a letter (a-z) and a number (1-40), for example A4 is the first column and
- the fourth row. Each cell can contain either a value (alphanumeric or
- numeric-maximum length of 8 characters) or a formula (maximum length of 30
- characters). With a spreadsheet, you can, for example, keep track of monthly
- expenditures, track sales figures, or track any other numbers. To begin:
-
- 1. Select File.
- 2. Select New.
- 3. Start typing values or formulas into your spreadsheet.
-
- To save your spreadsheet:
-
- 1. Select File.
- 2. Select Save.
-
- Helpful Hints
-
- 1. You can type titles above your entries to make the data more readable.
- 2. You can move to the first cell (A1) by selecting Edit, then Home.
- 3. A cell is not automatically recalculated if Recalculate auto is not
- selected in the Recalculate menu.
- 4. If you have a large spreadsheet, it is faster to recalculate only the
- necessary cells (for example, a row or column). To recalculate, select
- Recalculate.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 48. Writing Formulas ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- The value of a cell can be determined by the result of a calculation. The
- following can be used to write formulas in the Formula field:
-
- Cell references
- Contents of cells are referenced by the cell identifier. For example,
- A4, C6, Z40.
- Numbers
- Numbers can be used as whole numbers of integers. For example, 25,
- 100, 25.50, 100.25.
- Operators
- Operators are used to manipulate cell contents and numbers. The
- operators are:
-
- + Addition.
- - Subtraction.
- * Multiplication.
- / Division.
- @ Area summation. The area summation operator must be used in
- conjunction with 2 cell references in order to define the block of
- cells to be included in the summation. For example, B2@C4
- produces the same result as B2+B3+B4+C2+C3+C4.
- ( ) The left and right parentheses can be used to change the order of
- a calculation. For example, 2+4*5 will give a result of 30
- whereas the formula 2+(4*5) gives the result of 22.
