- Technical Support
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- (1) Most questions are answered by the manual, so please consult your Matrix-
- Plotter User's Guide first.
-
- (2) If the User's Guide does not answer your question, please call our techni-
- cal support number, (415) 626-9558, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time.
-
- (3) Please have your MatrixPlotter master disk handy; we will need to know its
- version and serial numbers.
-
- (4) We will need to know complete details about the brand, model and configu-
- ration of your computer. We will also need to know the name and version
- number of the program you are using to generate HP-GL plot files. Please
- have this information handy when you call.
-
- (5) Please call from a location which allows you to operate your computer and
- printer. Also, please have your MatrixPlotter User's Guide handy, your
- printer on and online, and MatrixPlotter or Capture -- whichever you need
- help with -- running on your computer.

- MatrixPlotter User's Guide Corrections and Additions
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- (1) An example HP-GL file, named COLUMBIA.PLT, has been included on your
- master disk. This file was used to produce the space shuttle in Figure
- 2-1 in the MatrixPlotter User's Guide. Please use this file to confirm
- that MatrixPlotter is working correctly with your computer and printer.
-
- (2) If you are using Ashton-Tate's Chart-Master, Sign-Master or Diagram-
- Master, you must use a command not documented in the Ashton-Tate manuals
- to cause your plot to be written to a file instead of a port: Press Ctrl-F
- (hold down the "Ctrl" key and press the "F" key) just before issuing the
- plot command; this results in your plot being written to a file named
- PLOTFILE.DRI in your current directory. You may then use MatrixPlotter
- to plot this file on your printer.
-
- The Ashton-Tate programs overwrite PLOTFILE.DRI each time they generate a
- plot, so if you want to collect several plot files before using Matrix-
- Plotter, be sure and rename PLOTFILE.DRI between plots.
-
- (3) Paper alignment in your printer is important if you want MatrixPlotter to
- place the plot on the page exactly where the plotter would have placed it.
- Plot placement in MatrixPlotter is calibrated according to the following
- paper alignment rules:
-
- (a) EX Series: Position the left edge of the paper, or the perforation
- if you are using continuous-form paper, at index mark "1" on the bail
- bar. Position the top edge of the paper 1/2 inch below the top of
- the print head.
-
- (b) LQ Series: Position the left edge of the paper, or the perforation
- if you are using continuous-form paper, at index mark "0" on the bail
- bar. Position the top edge of the paper even with the top of the
- print head.
-
- (4) If your printer contains an IBM Graphics Printer emulation mode, be sure
- to set the DIP switches to turn IBM emulation off. MatrixPlotter is de-
- signed to use your printer in its standard "native" Epson mode.
-
- (5) You no longer need to specify a drive identifier and path name for the
- File or Output-destination command. MatrixPlotter assumes the file name
- you enter is located in your current drive and path unless you specify
- otherwise.
