  18. SOFTWARE PROTECTION
  19. Schematic 3 is  now delivered  without the  software
  20. protection system (hardware  device) mentioned  in the
  21. manual. You are free to  make back-up  copies of  the
  22. Schematic 3 diskettes for your own  use on  one machine,
  23. under the terms of the Protel Software License Agreement.

  25. File Organization
  26. Six diskettes  are currently shipped with SCHEMATIC 3:

  35. Installation notes
  36. The Reference Manual installation instructions, beginning
  37. on
  38. page 12, refer to the PROGRAM disk. Most of the files
  39. required to complete installation of the software are now
  40. on
  41. the EDIT disk.
  42.  
  43. If you are installing version 3.30 as an upgrade, it is
  44. strongly recommended that you copy these files into empty
  45. directories on your hard disk. New versions have been
  46. provided for each program and utility.

  49. The Graphics Drivers files, needed to complete the
  50. installation, are now delivered on a second diskette
  51. called:
  52. GRAPHICS DRIVERS. A number of higher resolution drivers
  53. have
  54. been added to the package. All drivers (except CGA and
  55. HERC)
  56. have been re-written for improved performance.

  75. A number of these drivers are compatible with cards from
  76. many different manufacturers. Normally this compatibility
  77. is
  78. determined by the "chipset" on the card, so some
  79. experimentation may be needed to determine the best
  80. driver
  81. for your combination of graphics card and monitor.

  84. Annotate utility
  85. This utility program (shipped with previous releases of
  86. Schematic 3) has not been shipped with this version. The
  87. Annotate utility is currently being re-designed to
  88. overcome
  89. some problems with the current version. We recommend that
  90. users do not use older versions of Annotate with this
  91. version of Schematic.

  94. Library corrections
  95. Although we are shipping a new edition of the library
  96. diskettes, these libraries are identical to those
  97. cataloged
  98. in the first edition. However, a number of errors have
  99. been corrected for this release.

  126. Schematic Library Verifier
  127. This is a new utility provided for users who have had
  128. problems with corruption of libraries generated with
  129. previous versions of the Schematic Library Manager. This
  130. utility processes libraries, checking for the correctness
  131. and validity of each component. Valid components are
  132. copied
  133. to the destination library. A report file (with the
  134. extension .RPT is generated which lists error messages
  135. and
  136. any defective (removed) components.
  137.  
  138. To launch the Library Verifier, type:
  139.  
  140. SLV <ENTER> (from a directory with the SLV.EXE file)
  141.  
  142. You will be prompted to enter the names of the source
  143. file
  144. and destination file. These names cannot be the same.
  145.  
  146. The Edit program has also been re-written to improve
  147. error
  148. handling, and will remove corruption from schematic files
  149. in
  150. many cases. Files are scanned, upon loading, for
  151. identifiable corruption of components, netlabels and
  152. phantom
  153. components, which will be removed from the file. The
  154. files
  155. must be SAVED to effect the corrections. Some types of
  156. corruption eg. 'scrambling' of bitmaps'will not be
  157. identified because the structure of the file has not been
  158. damaged. You will have to delete/replace these items
  159. manually.

  162. SCHPLOT
  163.  
  164. A number of improvements have been made to both the print
  165. and plot portions of SCHPLOT. Several reported problems
  166. have
  167. been corrected, as well.
  168.  
  169.  
  170. HP LaserJet (tm) will now print a full A4 drawing using
  171. the
  172. Normal Scale setting. When using a plotter it is still
  173. usually necessary to scale the drawing to approximately
  174. .97
  175. to fit it onto an A4 sheet, if including the border.
  176.  
  177. LaserJet reduced scale is now approximately 2/3 normal -
  178. was
  179. approximately 1/2 normal scale.
  180.  
  181. Corruption of large bitmaps during printing/plotting were
  182. reported by some users of the previous releases. Other
  183. users
  184. were having problems printing multiple bitmaps. These
  185. problems have been corrected.
  186.  
  187. Previously, loading files into SCHPLOT, then aborting the
  188. plot/print would decrease the available memory each time,
  189. unless the user quit SCHPLOT and re-loaded the utility.
  190. This
  191. has been corrected.
  192.  
  193. The Epson (and compatible) printer drivers were not
  194. scaling
  195. bus lines properly. These lines will now print solidly.
  196.  
  197.  
  198. LQ Printer support
  199. Two new  drivers have  been   included for  the  Epson
  200. LQ(tm) Series printers.  The LQ8  driver supports  the 8
  201. inch model and the  LQ13 driver  supports the  13.6 inch
  202. version. Both drivers use  all 24  pins on  the LQ print
  203. head for improved print quality.

  206. Calcomp Plotter Driver
  207. The CALCOMP.DRV driver works for all Calcomp plotters
  208. that
  209. support the PCI format. See the Release Notes for the
  210. communications setup for this plotter.
