- SOFTWARE PROTECTION
- Schematic 3 is now delivered without the software
- protection system (hardware device) mentioned in the
- manual. You are free to make back-up copies of the
- Schematic 3 diskettes for your own use on one machine,
- under the terms of the Protel Software License Agreement.
-
- File Organization
- Six diskettes are currently shipped with SCHEMATIC 3:
-
- EDIT DISK
- PLOT DISK
- UTILITIES DISK
- GRAPHICS DRIVERS
- LIBRARY A
- LIBRARY B
-
- Installation notes
- The Reference Manual installation instructions, beginning
- on
- page 12, refer to the PROGRAM disk. Most of the files
- required to complete installation of the software are now
- on
- the EDIT disk.
-
- If you are installing version 3.30 as an upgrade, it is
- strongly recommended that you copy these files into empty
- directories on your hard disk. New versions have been
- provided for each program and utility.
-
-
- The Graphics Drivers files, needed to complete the
- installation, are now delivered on a second diskette
- called:
- GRAPHICS DRIVERS. A number of higher resolution drivers
- have
- been added to the package. All drivers (except CGA and
- HERC)
- have been re-written for improved performance.

-
- A number of these drivers are compatible with cards from
- many different manufacturers. Normally this compatibility
- is
- determined by the "chipset" on the card, so some
- experimentation may be needed to determine the best
- driver
- for your combination of graphics card and monitor.
-
-
- Annotate utility
- This utility program (shipped with previous releases of
- Schematic 3) has not been shipped with this version. The
- Annotate utility is currently being re-designed to
- overcome
- some problems with the current version. We recommend that
- users do not use older versions of Annotate with this
- version of Schematic.
-
-
- Library corrections
- Although we are shipping a new edition of the library
- diskettes, these libraries are identical to those
- cataloged
- in the first edition. However, a number of errors have
- been corrected for this release.

- Schematic Library Verifier
- This is a new utility provided for users who have had
- problems with corruption of libraries generated with
- previous versions of the Schematic Library Manager. This
- utility processes libraries, checking for the correctness
- and validity of each component. Valid components are
- copied
- to the destination library. A report file (with the
- extension .RPT is generated which lists error messages
- and
- any defective (removed) components.
-
- To launch the Library Verifier, type:
-
- SLV <ENTER> (from a directory with the SLV.EXE file)
-
- You will be prompted to enter the names of the source
- file
- and destination file. These names cannot be the same.
-
- The Edit program has also been re-written to improve
- error
- handling, and will remove corruption from schematic files
- in
- many cases. Files are scanned, upon loading, for
- identifiable corruption of components, netlabels and
- phantom
- components, which will be removed from the file. The
- files
- must be SAVED to effect the corrections. Some types of
- corruption eg. 'scrambling' of bitmaps'will not be
- identified because the structure of the file has not been
- damaged. You will have to delete/replace these items
- manually.
-
-
- SCHPLOT
-
- A number of improvements have been made to both the print
- and plot portions of SCHPLOT. Several reported problems
- have
- been corrected, as well.
-
-
- HP LaserJet (tm) will now print a full A4 drawing using
- the
- Normal Scale setting. When using a plotter it is still
- usually necessary to scale the drawing to approximately
- .97
- to fit it onto an A4 sheet, if including the border.
-
- LaserJet reduced scale is now approximately 2/3 normal -
- was
- approximately 1/2 normal scale.
-
- Corruption of large bitmaps during printing/plotting were
- reported by some users of the previous releases. Other
- users
- were having problems printing multiple bitmaps. These
- problems have been corrected.
-
- Previously, loading files into SCHPLOT, then aborting the
- plot/print would decrease the available memory each time,
- unless the user quit SCHPLOT and re-loaded the utility.
- This
- has been corrected.
-
- The Epson (and compatible) printer drivers were not
- scaling
- bus lines properly. These lines will now print solidly.
-
-
- LQ Printer support
- Two new drivers have been included for the Epson
- LQ(tm) Series printers. The LQ8 driver supports the 8
- inch model and the LQ13 driver supports the 13.6 inch
- version. Both drivers use all 24 pins on the LQ print
- head for improved print quality.
-
-
- Calcomp Plotter Driver
- The CALCOMP.DRV driver works for all Calcomp plotters
- that
- support the PCI format. See the Release Notes for the
- communications setup for this plotter.
