  2. Please select the drive and directory into which MicroStation will be
  3. installed.

  5. MicroStation can be installed onto any drive and can be put into 
  6. any directory.  However, if you wish to maintain multiple versions of
  7. MicroStation, it is recommended that you use a different directory 
  8. from any previous installations of MicroStation.

  11. There has been a previous installation of MicroStation for the directory
  12. chosen. Since new versions of MicroStation frequently have a different set
  13. of files, it is advisable to delete the files from your previous
  14. installation.

  16. The install program will DELETE ANY DELIVERED FILES in MicroStation
  17. directories you upgrade.  Therefore, if you have created any new files in
  18. any of the MicroStation directories, you should first save them elsewhere
  19. or chance losing them forever!

  21. If you wish to exit and save your files press Ctrl-Z now. Otherwise
  22. select Y to remove all files before upgrading or N to only upgrade new
  23. files.

  27. The main MicroStation system files include the basic files needed to run
  28. MicroStation. These include several MicroStation Development Language (MDL)
  29. applications. Also included are several cell libraries, utilities,
  30. configuration files, and the sample files used in the lessons found in the
  31. user's quide.

  35. The MicroStation Development Language (MDL) files consist of compilers,
  36. linkers, librarians, and other files needed for development of MDL
  37. applications for use with MicroStation.

  41. These are complete examples, with source, of MDL applications. Each is
  42. intended to help explain how to write MDL programs. Several examples are
  43. quite useful for everyday tasks in MicroStation.

  47. The Patterning Cell Libraries contain the sample cells to "pattern"
  48. either closed areas (Area Patterning) or along a linear path (Linear
  49. Patterning).

  51. MicroStation has the built-in capability to fill closed areas with
  52. crosshatch lines.  If this capability is sufficient, you do not need to
  53. install the sample patterning cells.

  58. The database files and related design files are useful for learning how to
  59. use dBase with MicroStation.

  70. This will install the tools required to use DXF files with MicroStation.

  77. are useful for learning how to use MicroStation.

  82. The On-line help files contain extensive information on many aspects of
  83. MicroStation. Other products based on MicroStation may make use of the
  84. help system. The help is optional but is recommended when learning how
  85. to use MicroStation.

  89. Now that you have installed the MicroStation files onto your system you
  90. will need to run the configuration program, USCONFIG, to specify the
  91. hardware configuration you are using.

  93. You should also make sure that your CONFIG.SYS file in your root directory
  94. has the parameters

  99. NOTE: These values are minimal. You may set them higher provided sufficient
  100.       memory is available.

  102. Also, if you are using an Expanded Memory Manager that is not VCPI
  103. (Virtual Control Program Interface) compatible, MicroStation will not
  104. utilize memory allocated to that Memory Manager.
