- Overview of MicroStation Nexus Functionality
-
-
- MicroStation Nexus is a package of enhancement tools for
- MicroStation CAD software. It consists of the following four
- components:
-
- * Windows Connection
-
- Windows Connection enhances the operation of MicroStation PC
- Version 4.0 running in the Microsoft Windows environment. Added
- capabilities range from simple bitmap copy/paste operations to
- sophisticated dynamic data exchange (DDE) links between data
- entities in different applications. MicroStation graphics are
- displayed in a resizable window on the Windows desktop with
- other Windows applications. Windows Connection is an extension
- to existing MicroStation software, so MicroStation still
- operates as a 32-bit protected mode application and allows
- complete access to all Version 4.0 features.
-
- * AutoCAD Access
-
- AutoCAD Access allows you to open AutoCAD drawing ".dwg" files
- in MicroStation via various methods: Interactively in
- MicroStation with the DWGIN MDL application; Directly by
- specifying its filename when starting MicroStation or by using
- the Open File dialog box; or by issuing commands from the
- system prompt. This version of AutoCAD Access allows you to
- open AutoCAD Version 2, 9, 10, and 11 drawing files.
-
- * Configurability Tools
-
- The Configurability Tools let you customize MicroStation's
- graphical user interface. These tools include Face Lifter,
- used to customize MicroStation's dialog boxes and settings
- boxes; Menu Manager, used to customize the pull-down menus in
- MicroStation's Command Window; and Palette Manager, used to
- customize MicroStation's tool palettes and to create custom
- tool palettes.
-
- * FlyThrough Producer and Movies
-
- FlyThrough Producer lets you create simple animation sequences
- for visualizing 3D models. You guide a virtual camera along a
- predefined path through the model, and then play the resulting
- sequences later with Movies. The animation sequences can be
- stored in a wide variety of industry standard file formats and
- can be imported into many other animation packages for editing
- or integration with other multi-media presentations.

-
- Installing MicroStation Nexus
-
- The MicroStation Nexus software and documentation are supplied on
- a single diskette. This section gives the procedures for
- installing the software under Microsoft Windows and DOS. Any
- MicroStation Nexus components you choose to install will be
- installed as MDL applications in MicroStation's "mdlapps"
- directory (typically "C:\ustation\mdlapps\").
-
-
- Microsoft Windows
-
- If you use Microsoft Windows:
-
- 1.Insert the diskette in a floppy drive.
-
- 2.If Windows is running, choose Run from the Windows Program
- Manager File menu.
-
- or
-
- If Windows is installed but not running, set the default drive
- to the drive into which you inserted the diskette (for
- example, A:).
-
- 3.Assuming the diskette is in drive A, enter A:SETUP to run the
- installation program, SETUP.
-
- The SETUP program is initialized (this takes a moment). A
- dialog box with a message that MicroStation PC version 4.0.3
- or later must already be installed on your system is
- displayed.
-
- 4.Click the Continue button to continue the installation. (You
- can also click the Exit button to abort the installation or
- the Help button for more information.)
-
- The MicroStation Nexus Installation Option dialog box is
- displayed.
-
- 5.By default, all the MicroStation Nexus components are
- installed. If do not want to install all the components, turn
- off one of the two options:
-
- - Windows Connection
-
- - AutoCAD Access, FlyThrough Producer, Movies, and
- Configurability Tools
-
- This second group of components is installed by USINSTAL, and
- you will have the opportunity to install whichever of those
- components you choose during that part of the installation.
-
- Then click the Continue button.
-
- A dialog box asking for the path of the MicroStation directory
- is displayed.
-
- 6.By default, SETUP assumes that the MicroStation directory is
- "C:\ustation." If you have installed MicroStation elsewhere,
- enter the correct drive and path in the Path field. Then click
- the Continue button.
-
- SETUP performs the following steps:
-
- * Installs Windows Connection software in these sub-directories
- of the MicroStation directory:
-
- "docs" Adds the MicroStation Nexus documentation files
- "drivers" Adds the Windows Connection display driver
- "mdlapps" Adds the Windows Connection DDE/Clipboard MDL application
- "winconn" Creates this sub-directory and adds other Windows
- Connection files
-
- * Creates a Program Manager Group for Windows Connection.
-
- * Adds "winclip.ma" to the list of startup MDL applications
- defined by the MS_DGNAPPS environment variable.
-
- SETUP then displays a dialog box with the message that you
- must add the following line to your "config.sys" file:
-
- DEVICE<USTN_BASEDIR>\WINCONN\MSWINC.SYS
-
- 7.Click the Add Now button to have SETUP save a copy of your
- current "config.sys" file as "config.old" and add the line to
- your "config.sys" file. If you want to add the line yourself,
- click the Add Later button.
-
- A dialog box with the following message is displayed:
-
- The Windows Connection configuration will be generated from
- your existing MicroStation configuration. The existing
- configuration will not be changed and will still be available
- for full-screen DOS operation.
-
- 8.Click the Continue button.
-
- A dialog box announcing successful configuration of Windows
- Connection is displayed. It also contains this message:
-
- The current configuration is for single-screen operation. If
- you would like to use Windows Connection in dual-screen mode
- or change any other MicroStation settings, select Configure to
- run USCONFIG.
-
- 9.To start the USCONFIG program so you can configure
- MicroStation to use with Windows Connection, click the
- Configure button. If you do:
-
- - You must select "Generic Tablet" as your input device.
-
- - For the display adapter for the screen to be shared with
- Windows, you must select "uStn/Windows Connection" from the
- "Vendor Supplied Driver" menu.
-
- - If your configuration includes a second screen (which will
- be dedicated to MicroStation), select the appropriate adapter
- for that screen.
-
- For more information about configuring MicroStation for
- Windows Connection, see the "Windows Connection" section of
- this guide.
-
- If you do not want to configure MicroStation, click the
- Continue button.
-
- A window is displayed with the following message:
-
- Use the Windows Connection "Configuration Utility" icon
- whenever you make changes to your MicroStation configuration
- that you want reflected in your Windows connection
- Configuration.
-
- 10. Click the Continue button.
-
- If you are also installing any of the other Nexus components,
- SETUP will run USINSTAL to install those components. When
