  96. Overview of MicroStation Nexus Functionality
  97.

  99. MicroStation Nexus is a package of enhancement tools for
  100. MicroStation CAD software. It consists of the following four
  101. components:
  102.  
  103. * Windows Connection
  104.   
  105.   Windows Connection enhances the operation of MicroStation PC
  106.   Version 4.0 running in the Microsoft Windows environment. Added
  107.   capabilities range from simple bitmap copy/paste operations to
  108.   sophisticated dynamic data exchange (DDE) links between data
  109.   entities in different applications. MicroStation graphics are
  110.   displayed in a resizable window on the Windows desktop with
  111.   other Windows applications. Windows Connection is an extension
  112.   to existing MicroStation software, so MicroStation still
  113.   operates as a 32-bit protected mode application and allows
  114.   complete access to all Version 4.0 features.
  115.   
  116. * AutoCAD Access
  117.   
  118.   AutoCAD Access allows you to open AutoCAD drawing ".dwg" files
  119.   in MicroStation via various methods: Interactively in
  120.   MicroStation with the DWGIN MDL application; Directly by
  121.   specifying its filename when starting MicroStation or by using
  122.   the Open File dialog box; or by issuing commands from the
  123.   system prompt. This version of AutoCAD Access allows you to
  124.   open AutoCAD Version 2, 9, 10, and 11 drawing files.

  126. * Configurability Tools
  127.   
  128.   The Configurability Tools let you customize MicroStation's
  129.   graphical user interface. These tools include Face Lifter,
  130.   used to customize MicroStation's dialog boxes and settings
  131.   boxes; Menu Manager, used to customize the pull-down menus in
  132.   MicroStation's Command Window; and Palette Manager, used to
  133.   customize MicroStation's tool palettes and to create custom
  134.   tool palettes.

  136. * FlyThrough Producer and Movies
  137.   
  138.   FlyThrough Producer lets you create simple animation sequences
  139.   for visualizing 3D models. You guide a virtual camera along a
  140.   predefined path through the model, and then play the resulting
  141.   sequences later with Movies. The animation sequences can be
  142.   stored in a wide variety of industry standard file formats and
  143.   can be imported into many other animation packages for editing
  144.   or integration with other multi-media presentations.

  148. Installing MicroStation Nexus
  149.  
  150. The MicroStation Nexus software and documentation are supplied on
  151. a single diskette. This section gives the procedures for
  152. installing the software under Microsoft Windows and DOS. Any
  153. MicroStation Nexus components you choose to install will be
  154. installed as MDL applications in MicroStation's "mdlapps"
  155. directory (typically "C:\ustation\mdlapps\").

  158. Microsoft Windows
  159.  
  160. If you use Microsoft Windows:
  161.  
  162. 1.Insert the diskette in a floppy drive.
  163.   
  164. 2.If Windows is running, choose Run from the Windows Program
  165.   Manager File menu.
  166.   
  167.   or
  168.   
  169.   If Windows is installed but not running, set the default drive
  170.   to the drive into which you inserted the diskette (for
  171.   example, A:).
  172.   
  173. 3.Assuming the diskette is in drive A, enter A:SETUP to run the
  174.   installation program, SETUP.
  175.   
  176.   The SETUP program is initialized (this takes a moment). A
  177.   dialog box with a message that MicroStation PC version 4.0.3
  178.   or later must already be installed on your system is
  179.   displayed.
  180.   
  181. 4.Click the Continue button to continue the installation. (You
  182.   can also click the Exit button to abort the installation or
  183.   the Help button for more information.)
  184.   
  185.   The MicroStation Nexus Installation Option dialog box is
  186.   displayed.
  187.   
  188. 5.By default, all the MicroStation Nexus components are
  189.   installed. If do not want to install all the components, turn
  190.   off one of the two options:
  191.   
  192.   - Windows Connection
  193.   
  194.   - AutoCAD Access, FlyThrough Producer, Movies, and
  195.     Configurability Tools
  196.   
  197.   This second group of components is installed by USINSTAL, and
  198.   you will have the opportunity to install whichever of those
  199.   components you choose during that part of the installation.
  200.   
  201.   Then click the Continue button.
  202.   
  203.   A dialog box asking for the path of the MicroStation directory
  204.   is displayed.
  205.   
  206. 6.By default, SETUP assumes that the MicroStation directory is
  207.   "C:\ustation." If you have installed MicroStation elsewhere,
  208.   enter the correct drive and path in the Path field. Then click
  209.   the Continue button.
  210.   
  211.   SETUP performs the following steps:
  212.   
  213. * Installs Windows Connection software in these sub-directories
  214.   of the MicroStation directory:
  215.   
  216.   "docs"       Adds the MicroStation Nexus documentation files
  217.   "drivers"    Adds the Windows Connection display driver
  218.   "mdlapps"    Adds the Windows Connection DDE/Clipboard MDL application
  219.   "winconn"    Creates this sub-directory and adds other Windows
  220.                Connection files
  221.            
  222. * Creates a Program Manager Group for Windows Connection.
  223.   
  224. * Adds "winclip.ma" to the list of startup MDL applications
  225.   defined by the MS_DGNAPPS environment variable.
  226.   
  227.   SETUP then displays a dialog box with the message that you
  228.   must add the following line to your "config.sys" file:
  229.   
  230.      DEVICE<USTN_BASEDIR>\WINCONN\MSWINC.SYS
  231.   
  232. 7.Click the Add Now button to have SETUP save a copy of your
  233.   current "config.sys" file as "config.old" and add the line to
  234.   your "config.sys" file. If you want to add the line yourself,
  235.   click the Add Later button.
  236.   
  237.   A dialog box with the following message is displayed:
  238.   
  239.   The Windows Connection configuration will be generated from
  240.   your existing MicroStation configuration. The existing
  241.   configuration will not be changed and will still be available
  242.   for full-screen DOS operation.
  243.   
  244. 8.Click the Continue button.
  245.   
  246.   A dialog box announcing successful configuration of Windows
  247.   Connection  is displayed. It also contains this message:
  248.   
  249.   The current configuration is for single-screen operation. If
  250.   you would like to use Windows Connection in dual-screen mode
  251.   or change any other MicroStation settings, select Configure to
  252.   run USCONFIG.
  253.   
  254. 9.To start the USCONFIG program so you can configure
  255.   MicroStation to use with Windows Connection, click the
  256.   Configure button. If you do:
  257.   
  258.   - You must select "Generic Tablet" as your input device.
  259.   
  260.   - For the display adapter for the screen to be shared with
  261.     Windows, you must select "uStn/Windows Connection" from the
  262.     "Vendor Supplied Driver" menu.
  263.   
  264.   - If your configuration includes a second screen (which will
  265.     be dedicated to MicroStation), select the appropriate adapter
  266.     for that screen.
  267.   
  268.   For more information about configuring MicroStation for
  269.   Windows Connection, see the "Windows Connection" section of
  270.   this guide.
  271.   
  272.   If you do not want to configure MicroStation, click the
  273.   Continue button.
  274.   
  275.   A window is displayed with the following message:
  276.   
  277.   Use the Windows Connection "Configuration Utility" icon
  278.   whenever you make changes to your MicroStation configuration
  279.   that you want reflected in your Windows connection
  280.   Configuration.
  281.   
  282. 10. Click the Continue button.
  283.   
  284.     If you are also installing any of the other Nexus components,
  285.     SETUP will run USINSTAL to install those components. When
  286.     USINSTAL loads, you will be prompted to press any key to
  287.     continue.
  288.   
  289. 11. When the next screen is displayed, confirm that the path to
  290.     the MicroStation directory is correct and press <PgDn>.
  291.   
  292. 12. When the next screen is displayed, to "clean up"
  293.     (overwrite) any previously installed versions of AutoCAD
  294.     Access, Configurability Tools, and FlyThrough Producer, press
  295.     <PgDn>.
  296.   
  297. 13. When the next screen is displayed, to install AutoCAD
  298.     Access, press <Y> and then <PgDn>. To skip this component,
  299.     press <N> and then <PgDn>.
  300.   
  301.     If you pressed <Y>, the AutoCAD Access software is installed.
  302.   
  303. 14. When the next screen is displayed, to install the
  304.     Configurability Tools, press <Y> and <PgDn>. To skip this
  305.     component, press <N> and then <PgDn>.
  306.   
  307.     If you pressed <Y>, the Configurability Tools software is
  308.     installed.
  309.   
  310. 15. When the next screen is displayed, to install FlyThrough
  311.     Producer and Movies, press <Y> and then <PgDn>. To skip this
  312.     component, press <N> and then <PgDn>.
  313.   
  314.     If you pressed <Y>, the FlyThrough Producer and Movies
  315.     software is installed.
  316.   
  317.     USINSTAL terminates and returns you to the MicroStation
  318.     Windows Connection Setup in Windows.
  319.   
  320.     A message is displayed that you must reboot the system in
  321.     order to put any changes to your "config.sys" file into
  322.     effect.
  323.   
  324. 16. Click the OK button.
  325.   
  326. 17. If you chose not to let SETUP add to "config.sys," the line
  327.     necessary to run Windows Connection, use a text editor to
  328.     add that line. (Refer to step 6, above.)
  329.   
  330. 18. Reboot your system to use MicroStation Nexus.
  331.

  333. DOS
  334.  
  335. If you do not use Windows or do not want to install Windows
  336. Connection:
  337. 1.Insert the diskette in a floppy drive.
  338.  
  339. 2.At the DOS prompt, set the default drive to the drive into
  340.   which you inserted the diskette (for example, A:).
  341.  
  342. 3.Enter USINSTAL.
  343.   
  344.   When the USINSTAL loads, you will be prompted to press any key
  345.   to continue.
  346.   
  347. 4.When the next screen is displayed, confirm that the path to
  348.   the MicroStation directory is correct and press <PgDn>.
  349.   
  350. 5.When the next screen is displayed, to "clean up" (overwrite)
  351.   any previously installed versions of AutoCAD Access,
  352.   Configurability Tools, and FlyThrough Producer, press <PgDn>.
  353.   
  354. 6.When the next screen is displayed, to install AutoCAD Access,
  355.   press <Y> and then <PgDn>. To skip this component, press <N>
  356.   and then <PgDn>.
  357.   
  358.   If you pressed <Y>, the AutoCAD Access software is installed.
  359.   
  360. 7.When the next screen is displayed, to install the
  361.   Configurability Tools, press <Y> and <PgDn>. To skip this
  362.   component, press <N> and then <PgDn>.
  363.   
  364.   If you pressed <Y>, the Configurability Tools software is
  365.   installed.
  366.   
  367. 8.When the next screen is displayed, to install FlyThrough
  368.   Producer and Movies, press <Y> and then <PgDn>. To skip this
  369.   component, press <N> and then <PgDn>.
  370.   
  371.   If you pressed <Y>, the FlyThrough Producer and Movies
  372.   software is installed.
  373.   
  374.   USINSTAL terminates and you are returned to the DOS prompt.
