- SHELL Menu: INFO
- ==============================================================================
- Leaves the work session temporarily to execute operating system functions
- (DOS).
- (A nested command.)
-
- Description:
- This command temporarily exits the current work session in order to execute
- DOS commands and subsequently returns to the original file.
- There are three configurations for this command (\shel0, \shel1 and \shel2).
- During the configuration process, the configuration suited to your hardware is
- copied into \shell. If more than one is suitable the system will ask you to
- choose an option.
- Shel0 suits all graphic screens. Shel1 may be used where your configuration
- includes a graphic card that allows "paging" between a graphic and
- alphanumeric display. This enables an immediate redisplay of the graphic
- screen when returning from \shell (shel0 has to "rebuild" the screen display,
- as in the \refr command). Shel2 is used when you have a dual screen
- configuration.
- The graphic display is erased (if you are working with one screen) or stays
- inactive (if there are two screens).
-
- Two lines of text will appear on the active screen:
- C:\directory name
- Type a DOS command or press <ENTER> to end the DOS session. The first line
- states the current directory. You may enter a DOS command after the `>' sign.
- These two lines will appear after each DOS command.
- The normal DOS prompt does not appear since you are located in a shell within
- the system. To return to the graphic screen, press <ENTER>.
- If you type "command" while in shell, you will enter a "true" DOS environment
- where you may execute all DOS commands. To return from this environment, type
- "exit".
- It is recommended that you execute the \b, \save or \fcopy command before
- executing this command.
- NOTE:Follow the instructions listed below, otherwise unpredictable results may
- occur:
- 1. You may use DOS commands such as DIR and COPY. More complex DOS commands
- may not work and may damage your file.
- 2. Do not attempt to execute any DOS disk checks, e.g., CHKDSK. These checks
- may ruin the open software files.
- 3. When using shel1, do not use: CLS, MODE, or any screen commands, e.g.,
- windows. Avoid using other programs that may cause screen changes.
- If you changed directories while in DOS, you will automatically be returned to
- the original working directory when you press <ENTER>.
