- Description:
- This command enables you to generate new font sets or edit existing ones.
- These font sets may be used as text (setting the font in command \atext or
- \tfont), as linear patterns (command \lpatn) or as patterns for filling
- multi-layer walls (command \mwfil). Each font set is stored in a file named by
- the user with the extension .TBF in directory ARCA. A basic set of such files
- is provided with the system. The patterns must reside only in the file
- ARCPATRN.TBF. The system supports up to 100 fonts.
- When you invoke the command you are asked for a font name to load. If you give
- a name of a font file that does not exist, you are informed that the font file
- is empty. In either case you are asked to give a name under which the new or
- edited font file will be saved. The system adds the extension .TBF to the file
- and saves the file in directory ARCA.
- The current screen is replaced by a 1616 matrix of lines. The file name at the
- top left hand corner of the screen is changed to $F$JEDIT. Within the matrix
- there are two lines of a different color and type. The space to the right and
- below these lines is the standard space to separate characters and lines. You
- should work to the left and above these lines unless the character extends
- below the line.
- You are prompted to enter a character or press <ENTER> if you wish to edit the
- currently displayed character. Characters not appearing on your keyboard may
- be entered by pressing <ALT> followed by the ASCII code.
-
- You are then presented with the following options:
- o another character
- l draw line
- d delete line
- s save character
- e end
- Option `o' - another character
- If you select option `o', you are prompted to specify another character. The
- character is displayed over the matrix and you may continue to edit it.
- NOTE: When editing the font file ARCPATRN.TBF (linear patterns), do not use
- upper-case characters A to Z!
- Option `l' - draw line
- If you select option `l', you are prompted to specify the first and subsequent
- points for the line. The line always snaps to the nearest intersection of the
- matrix even if you are outside it. You may skip by pressing <ENTER>. In order
- to return to the options press <ENTER> twice.
- NOTE: When creating a pattern for multi-layer walls, the pattern must be the
- full height of the matrix in order to fill the whole width of the wall layer.
-
- If you use a command not associated with the font editor, e.g., \movef to edit
- the line, the line may be detached from the matrix intersections and you will
- find that you have left the font editor's environment. In this case, reinvoke
- the font editor by selecting the same font to load and save. You will notice
- that the character remains on the matrix but its lines have been automatically
- adjusted to the nearest intersection. Press <ENTER> at the "enter character to
- display . . ." prompt, and continue editing.
- Option `d' - delete line
- If you select option `d', you may indicate lines to be deleted. You may
- continue this operation repeatedly. In order to return to the options, press
- <ENTER>.
- Option `s' - save character
- Use option `s' to save the character when you have finished creating or
- editing it. The system asks you to provide the character. You may use any
- ASCII character by pressing <ALT> followed by the ASCII code.
- Option `e' - end
- You may leave the font editor by selecting option `e'. The matrix will be
- erased and your previous display will be restored. If you have used any
- commands not associated with the font editor you will find that you have left
- the font editor's environment (although it is still displayed on the screen).
- In order to restore your previous display, invoke the font editor again and
- leave using this option.
