  1. NetWare CD-ROM Installation Update 
  2.  
  3. This update explains how to install NetWare from a 
  4. CD-ROM drive that shares a controller with the 
  5. server's hard disk.
  6.  
  7.      Note: This update does not apply to you if 
  8.            your CD-ROM is attached to the parallel
  9.            port, or does not share a disk controller
  10.            (or adapter) with the hard disk, or if 
  11.            your DOS drivers do not conflict with
  12.            NetWare drivers. 
  13.  
  14. Shared Controller Conflict 
  15.  
  16.      Many SCSI disk controllers do not support a NetWare
  17.      installation from a DOS CD-ROM device that shares the
  18.      controller board with a NetWare hard disk system. 
  19.  
  20.      Conflicts occur between DOS hard disk drivers, DOS 
  21.      CD-ROM drivers, and DOS BIOS routines when they are 
  22.      accessed from a server that uses a single controller
  23.      for the NetWare hard drive and the CD-ROM.
  24.  
  25.      Because of these conflicts, PUBLIC, SYSTEM, and other
  26.      selected files can't be copied from the CD-ROM.
  27.  
  28.      The following installation procedure addresses
  29.      this problem.
  30.  
  31. Prerequisites 
  32.  
  33.      Check the following prior to starting the CD-ROM 
  34.      installation of NetWare. 
  35.  
  36.      -     You should have installed the CD-ROM device as a 
  37.            DOS drive. The following procedure assumes DOS 
  38.            drive D:. 
  39.  
  40.      -     You should have created and formatted a small DOS
  41.            partition on the hard disk. 
  42.  
  43.      Note: The CD-ROM installation for DOS should have created
  44.            the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files with appropriate
  45.            CD-ROM DOS drivers and DOS support files for CD-ROM. 
  46.  
  47.      -     You must have a NetWare disk driver that supports
  48.            CD-ROM media as a mounted NetWare volume. 
  49.  
  50.      -     The CONFIG.SYS file must include statements for the
  51.            DOS drivers and switches. For example, 
  52.  
  53.            DEVICE = *HDDRIVER.SYS /D /I 
  54.            DEVICE = *CDDRIVER.SYS /D:CD002 
  55.  
  56.            Note:    In the first example, "/D" and "/I" are
  57.                     optional switches. 
  58.  
  59.      -     Check the AUTOEXEC.BAT file for the appropriate 
  60.            CD-ROM DOS extension application files. 
  61.            For example, 
  62.  
  63.            CDFILE.EXE /D:CD002 
  64.  
  65. Procedure 
  66.  
  67.      1.    Change to the D:\NETWARE.312\ENGLISH directory. 
  68.  
  69.      2.    Run INSTALL.BAT by typing INSTALL <Enter>. 
  70.  
  71.      3.    Read "ETHERNET USERS PLEASE NOTE:" and then 
  72.            strike any key to continue.
  73.  
  74.      4.    Select "Install new NetWare 3.12" and 
  75.            "Retain current disk partition" from their 
  76.            respective windows. 
  77.  
  78.      5.    Give the server a new name and IPX Internal
  79.            Network Number. 
  80.  
  81.      6.    In the "Copy server boot files to the 
  82.            DOS partition" window, verify the source and
  83.            destination paths and continue.  
  84.  
  85.            (You will need to make sure that the SYSTEM_1 
  86.            floppy diskette is in drive A: and press
  87.            <Enter> to continue.)
  88.  
  89.      7.    Select the Country Code, Code Page, and Keyboard
  90.            Setting. 
  91.  
  92.      8.    Choose "DOS Filename Format" or "NetWare Filename
  93.            Format" and press <Enter> to continue. 
  94.  
  95.      9.    Choose "Yes" to add desired SET commands to the
  96.            STARTUP.NCF file; choose "No" to skip. 
  97.  
  98.      10.   Respond with either "Yes" or "No" to the
  99.            AUTOEXEC.BAT update prompt. 
  100.   
  101.            (The "Invoking Server" messages is displayed.) 
  102.  
  103.      11.   At the console prompt, load the desired disk 
  104.            driver and press <Enter>.
  105.  
  106.      12.   At the console prompt, type LOAD INSTALL.
  107.  
  108.      13.   Create NetWare partitions by selecting "Disk Options"
  109.            in the "Installation Options" window and then selecting
  110.            "Partition Tables."  Use the "Create NetWare Partition"
  111.            option to create the partition.
  112.  
  113.      14.   Escape back to the "Installation Options" window and
  114.            select "Volume Options."  Create volume SYS: as prompted,
  115.            then press <Esc> to go back to the "Installation Options"
  116.            window. 
  117.  
  118.      15.   Press <Alt><Esc> to change from the 
  119.            "NetWare Server Installation" screen to the "System
  120.            Console" screen. 
  121.   
  122.      16.   If your CD_ROM device is attached using an 
  123.            ASPI controller card, load the appropriate ASPI
  124.            driver by typing the following command.
  125.            Otherwise, skip this step and go to Step 17. 
  126.  
  127.            LOAD C:<driver> and press <Enter> 
  128.  
  129.            <driver> is either CDNSASPI or ASPICD. 
  130.  
  131.      17.   Type LOAD C:CDROM <Enter>. 
  132.  
  133.            Note:    Ignore error messages displayed for CD
  134.                     devices. 
  135.  
  136.      18.   Type CD DEVICE LIST <Enter>. 
  137.  
  138.            The NETWARE_312 installation CD should appear in 
  139.            the displayed list. 
  140.  
  141.      19.   Type CD MOUNT NETWARE_312 <Enter>. 
  142.  
  143.            Note:   The CD volume will not mount if the
  144.                    SYS volume is not mounted.  If the SYS
  145.                    volume is not mounted, type MOUNT SYS
  146.                    <Enter>.  Retry Step 19.
  147.  
  148.      20.   <Alt><Esc> to the "NetWare Server Installation"
  149.            screen. 
  150.  
  151.      20.   Select "System Options"; then press <Enter>. 
  152.  
  153.      21.   Select "Copy System and Public Files"; then
  154.            press <Enter>.
  155.   
  156.      22.   Press <F6> to specify the drive or directory
  157.            to use for reading the system and public files. 
  158.  
  159.      23.   <Backspace> over the "A:\" and type,
  160.             NETWARE_312:NETWARE.312\ENGLISH
  161.             then press <Enter> to start the file copy.
  162.  
  163.      24.    When the "File Upload Complete" message is 
  164.             displayed, press <Esc> to exit.
