- NetWare CD-ROM Installation Update
-
- This update explains how to install NetWare from a
- CD-ROM drive that shares a controller with the
- server's hard disk.
-
- Note: This update does not apply to you if
- your CD-ROM is attached to the parallel
- port, or does not share a disk controller
- (or adapter) with the hard disk, or if
- your DOS drivers do not conflict with
- NetWare drivers.
-
- Shared Controller Conflict
-
- Many SCSI disk controllers do not support a NetWare
- installation from a DOS CD-ROM device that shares the
- controller board with a NetWare hard disk system.
-
- Conflicts occur between DOS hard disk drivers, DOS
- CD-ROM drivers, and DOS BIOS routines when they are
- accessed from a server that uses a single controller
- for the NetWare hard drive and the CD-ROM.
-
- Because of these conflicts, PUBLIC, SYSTEM, and other
- selected files can't be copied from the CD-ROM.
-
- The following installation procedure addresses
- this problem.
-
- Prerequisites
-
- Check the following prior to starting the CD-ROM
- installation of NetWare.
-
- - You should have installed the CD-ROM device as a
- DOS drive. The following procedure assumes DOS
- drive D:.
-
- - You should have created and formatted a small DOS
- partition on the hard disk.
-
- Note: The CD-ROM installation for DOS should have created
- the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files with appropriate
- CD-ROM DOS drivers and DOS support files for CD-ROM.
-
- - You must have a NetWare disk driver that supports
- CD-ROM media as a mounted NetWare volume.
-
- - The CONFIG.SYS file must include statements for the
- DOS drivers and switches. For example,
-
- DEVICE = *HDDRIVER.SYS /D /I
- DEVICE = *CDDRIVER.SYS /D:CD002
-
- Note: In the first example, "/D" and "/I" are
- optional switches.
-
- - Check the AUTOEXEC.BAT file for the appropriate
- CD-ROM DOS extension application files.
- For example,
-
- CDFILE.EXE /D:CD002
-
