- MICROFIELD GRAPHICS BOARD
-
- If you are using the Microfield graphics board in 1280 X 1024 mode
- you may encounter a problem with the handles on objects. Objects may appear
- to be selected when they are not and vice versa. To correct this problem,
- add a line to the WIN.INI file (which is located in the directory that
- contains your copy of Microsoft Windows). After you have installed
- Arts & Letters add the following line in the [a&L] section: "Handles=1".
- Save the WIN.INI file then restart Windows for the changes to take effect.

- DOCUMENTATION UPDATES
-
- Creating SCODL files. To generate a 35mm slide via SCODL export, use the
- Printer Setup command to select "Display - No Printer" as the target
- device. The message "Printer Page Size and Document Page Size Do Not
- Match" appears; click on Yes, and the Page Setup dialog box appears.
- Choose 35mm Slide as the page size, tall or wide orientation as desired,
- and set the page margins to 0. When creating the image for the slide,
- do not use Windows Metafiles, Bitmaps, or Hardware/Matrix fonts. These
- elements are not supported within the SCODL format. Also, be aware that
- wide lines and clipping masks are supported but can add significantly to
- the time required for exporting and for imaging. To export the image,
- choose the Export command. Select the SCODL format and choose Setup.
- If you want the slide background to be black, turn off the "Use Page
- Background" switch. If you are printing on a TT200 printer, turn on the
- TT200 switch. Select 200 or 4000 line resolution to match the resolution
- that the file will be imaged on the camera.
-
- Clip-Art Libraries. The Editor includes a variety of clip-art libraries
- that are installed along with the program. These libraries contain
- hundreds of pre-assembled and colored images you can add to your
- documents. To use these libraries, choose Custom Symbol from the Draw
- menu. The Clip-Art Manager dialog box appears, allowing you to choose
- custom clip art. For more information, see the section on Custom Symbols
- in the User's Guide.
-
- Autoloading Clip-Art Libraries. Appendix B, "Advanced Windows Techniques,"
- includes a section on Selecting Custom Libraries. The WIN.INI line
- "custom libraries=number" should be "editor libraries=number." Also,
- wildcard characters are supported, allowing you, for example, to specify
- "*.yal" as a library.
-
- Toolbox Highlight. If you wish to turn off the white highlight on the
- tools in the toolbox you can add the following line in the [a&l] section
- of the WIN.INI file: "Tool emboss=0". Save the WIN.INI file then restart
- Windows for the change to take effect.
-
- Object Cache. In the View menu under Quick Display there is an option to
- cache objects within your available memory. It defaults to "On" and will
- speed up the screen redraw time for TIFF images, Warp objects, and text
- bound to a path. (24-bit TIFF images are not affected.) Once the objects
- are cached they will redraw at optimum speed from memory. The cached
- objects can be cleared from memory by selecting the "Clear" option under
- Quick Display-Object Cache. If you are operating in a low memory situation
- you may want to turn the Object Cache "Off" to conserve your available
- memory.
-
- Hardware and Software fonts. The Windows WIN.INI file contains separate
- parameters for each printer and each printer port installed. For example,
- if you have a PostScript printer configured for output to LPT1 and COM2,
- your WIN.INI file will contain a [PostScript, LPT1] and a [PostScript,
- COM2] section. In order to print a document that contains hardware or
- software fonts, the fonts must be installed in the section corresponding
- to the currently selected printer and port. If you use the Arts & Letters
- "To File" command to print to a file, the fonts must be installed in the
- section corresponding to the selected printer on the port FILENAME. A
- convenient method of installing fonts to various printer/port combinations
- is to install the fonts once, then load the WIN.INI file into Notepad and
- Copy and Paste the font information to all of the desired sections.
