- --- NOTES ON THE AUTHORWARE WORKING MODEL ---
-
- Welcome to the Authorware Working Model. The Working
- is a fully-functional version of Authorware Professional
- for Windows, with a few constraints:
-
- -- You can only save files of 50 icons or less in size
- -- You can load and paste models but not create new ones
- -- You cannot "package" files for standalone delivery
-
- The files on these disks include sample applications,
- graphics, sounds, movies and models to load and experiment
- with.
-
- GRAPHICS
-
- The Working Model includes importers for the following file
- formats:
-
- -Windows DIB (Device Independent Bitmaps)
- -Windows BMP (Bitmaps)
- -Windows Metafile
- -Macintosh PICT
-
- The full product can also import PCX and MacPaint format.
-
- CONVERSION OF MACINTOSH FILES
-
- If you have the Macintosh version of the Authorware Working
- Model, you can experiment with cross-platform development.
- To see how this works, follow these steps:
-
- -Save the Macintosh file with an eight-character file name.
- Give it and extension of ".apm". Example: "macfile.apm".
-
- -Use a connectivity tool such as Apple File Exchange,
- Dayna's DOS Mounter, or Insignia's PC Access to move the
- Mac version to a DOS floppy and onto the PC's hard disk.
-
- -Open the file using the APW Working Model. It is copied and
- converted. When it opens, you have an editable .APW file.
-
- USING SOUND
-
- The Working Model supports digital audio. The defualt sound
- driver relies on Microsoft's Multimedia extensions to
- Windows. If you are using MME, any sound card installed
- accordingly will work with the Working Model. The install
- routine detects the presence of multimedia extensions and
- installs the MME sound driver without any intervention on
- your part.
-
- A specific Authorware driver is provided for the Creative
- Labs SoundBlaster card. If you do not have Multimedia
- Extensions, the install program sets up the Authorware
- SoundBlaster driver by default. During installation,
- reference is made to the driver in a file called APW.INI,
- located in the \WINDOWS directory:
-
- [SOUND]
- Driver=APSBISA.SDR
-
- [APSBISA.SDR]
- Port=220
- Int=7
-
- (Note: Depending on how your SoundBlaster card is installed,
- you may need to alter the Port and Int settings).
-
-
- Video overlay support
- ----------------------------------------
- Authorware is working with numerous vendors of video overlay
- hardware to ensure that their specific DLLs and drivers
- supplied can be integrated at the author level without
- programmer assistance. The following vendors have confirmed
- that their DLLs have been written as Authorware UCDs
- (User Code files) and can be loaded directly into APW via
- the "Load Function..." entry under the "Variables" menu:
-
- Videologic--DVA 4000 (using the MIC 2.2 command set)
- VideoMail--VMC-1E (currently working)
- New Media Graphics--Super VideoWindows (Fall update)
-
- Other vendors have received pre-release versions of APW for
- evaluation purposes but have not confirmed driver support
- at this time.
