  3. Black and White User Interface
  4. The non-color interface will appear if you use a VGA monitor. If your 
  5. monitor is capable of super-VGA, or you are using a higher-quality 
  6. graphics card, be sure you have the correct driver selected in the 
  7. Windows Setup program. Consult your video card documentation 
  8. for driver and setup information.

  11. Under "Using the Rectangle Auto Selection Feature" step 2, the 
  12. tutorial asks you to press the Shift key-right mouse button to use 
  13. the Auto Selection feature. You cannot use this feature if you have

  16. pasted area is just a portion of the rectangular area. To drag the 
  17. pasted area, your cursor must be in the shape of a hand and be 
  18. located over the actual pasted area (not simply within the 
  19. rectangle).

  21. Canceling a Scan
  22. To stop a scan in progress, press the ESC key. Clicking Cancel will 
  23. not stop the scan.

  25. Resizing an Image
  26. You can add a border or extra space around an image by selecting 
  27. Resample Options under the Image menu/Transform command. To 
  28. add space for a border, select Change Work Area/Image Centered 
  29. and add a value to the X and Y Size edit boxes on the right side of 
  30. the dialog box.

  32. Calibrating a Printer
  33. When you calibrate your printer, you print the calchart.tif file. Print 
  34. this chart without borders. An error message will appear if you scan 
  35. a chart printed with borders.

  37. Changing the Memory Setup
  38. You can select different drives to act as virtual memory locations 
  39. by choosing Memory in the Setup menu. A change in drives will go 
  40. into effect when you restart the program.

  42. Using the Spacebar for a Zoom Shortcut
  43. While using the paint tools only, you can turn the cursor into a 
  44. zoom tool by holding down the spacebar.

  46. Using the Period Key for a Hand-tool Shortcut
  47. While using the paint tools only, you can turn the cursor into a 
  48. hand tool by holding down the period key.

  50. Object Linking and Embedding
  51. The Color Graphics Editor supports object, linking and embedding 
  52. (OLE), a new feature of Microsoft Windows 3.1. OLE is a way to 
  53. transfer and share information between applications. Images from 
  54. Image Assistant can be embedded or linked into other documents. 
  55. Support of this type for OLE is referred to as server support. For 
  56. specific information and instructions for using OLE, refer to your 
  57. Microsoft Windows 3.1 User's Guide.

  59. Save Printer Calibration Files
  60. You can save your printer calibration files for when you later use a 
  61. particular hardware configuration. For example, if you have access 
  62. to two types of printers, you should calibrate your system 
  63. separately with each one. Then, save the calibration file for each 
  64. configuration. Reload the appropriate calibration file for each printer 
  65. instead of recalibrating. The Save Calibration dialog box 
  66. automatically opens after you complete the printer calibration 
  67. steps. This feature is also available for scanner calibration. Refer 
  68. to the Selecting Scanner section of the Installation Manual for more 
  69. information. 
  70. To use an existing printer calibration file: 
  71. 1. Choose Printer Setup in the File menu. 
  72. 2. Click Calibration file. 
  73. 3. Locate and load the appropriate calibration file. 4. Click OK to 
  74. close the dialog box.
  75. The currently selected calibration file will be listed below the 
  76. Calibration file button. 
  77. 5. Click Use calibration file to use the listed file.

  79. HP DeskJet 500C Printer
  80. To set up this printer to print in color, Select Printer Setup in the 
  81. File menu. Highlight the DeskJet driver and click Setup.... The 
  82. Printer Setup dialog box will appear: click Color... The Color Options 
  83. dialog box will appear: select Color Blending/Advanced Pattern or 
  84. Advanced Scatter.
