QikDraw Version 2 is a 2-Dimensional Drafting System designed to
minimize the user's training requirements.
The final drawing is to be made up of one or more sub-drawings. The
placement of these sub-drawings on the drawing sheet is defined when
the Drawing is composed. The Sub-Drawing can comprise any combination
of the following graphics attributes:-
Points
Lines
Curves
Circles/Arcs
Planes
Symbols
Dimensions
For details on the definition and manipulation of these graphics
attributes, please consult the relevant HELP file. For the setting of
general parameters such as SCALE and TOLERANCE, see the HELP file on
SET. For the choice of SNAPping or NOtSNaPping to the defined grid, or
the choice of primary input device, see the HELP file on MODE. For
general manipulation, see HELP file on UTILIties.
QikDraw uses the PUCK (3 or 4 buttons) and the graphics tablet as the
primary input device, minimizing the use of the key-board. In general,
the CENTRAL (YELLOW) button is used to select a point on the screen, be
it a menu item or screen co-ordinate. The LEFT (WHITE) button is used to
select non-standard operations, e.g. a MOVE (no draw) operation during
the line-creation or symbol-editing phases. It is also used to signify
to QikDraw that alternate action is required. Otherwise, the LEFT button
is treated as having the same effect as the RIGHT (GREEN) button, which
terminates the current command. (The BLUE button on 4 button pucks would
be treated to be equivalent to the GREEN button.)
The HIT-RADIUS is defined by the TOLERANCE. Thus, when selecting a point
or a line, the closest point/line that lies within the set tolerance
would be selected. The default tolerance is set to 4 screen units
(~1 mm) and is adjusted automatically with the scaling. This would
usually be acceptable. Circles/arcs/ellipses are selected by locating a
point on the circumference.
Curves are selected by locating one of the points defining the curve.
To select planes, symbols or dimensions, the user locates a point within
an imaginary rectangular box that encloses the entity. When there is
ambiguity, the user can resolve it by locating to the reference point
for symbols and dimensions, or locating to any of the definition points
for planes.
To restore inadvertent deletions, the last deleted item would be
restored if the LEFT button is pressed. This OOPS feature does not apply
to BLOCK DELETES.
Similar OOPS feature is available on point moves, LINE TRIMmings and
LINE ALIGNments.
The user can also exit from most options when an input is required from
the key-board. This is achieved by simply keying in the character "!".
Exits cannot be achieved from prompts requiring a Yes or No answer.
The user can accept the default value quoted by the prompt by either
pressing the "RETURN" key or the CENTRAL puck button. When the prompt
offers only two alternatives (e.g. a YES/NO answer), then the CENTRAL
button accepts the default while the LEFT button selects the alternative.
Pressing the RIGHT button is equivalent to keying in '!'.
All co-ordinates input via the key-board may be prefixed by R (relative
to the previous position) or P (polar co-ordinate system). In the line
addition mode, the user can prefix the input with M (move with pen up).
The prefix letters may be combined in any order.
Some of the menu options may be selected with the LEFT button for
alternate action. Options that can be selected in this manner are
prefixed by an '*' when the menu is displayed.
The user can terminate a display or plotting operation by pressing the
RIGHT PUCK button or typing in the character "!". Displays or plots can
be simplified by the choice of options under MODE DRAW (e.g. symbol
strings displayed as boxes; suppress of dimensions.)
At any time when the cross-hair cursor is shown, the user can s 6 e=s *òE
