  17. The PR2US\TUTORIAL directory contains several files for use 
  18. with the "Getting Started" lessons.
  19.  
  20. The PR2US\PRES directory contains the presentation files 
  21. PREVIEW.PR2 and XCHARSET.PR2. PREVIEW.PR2 is a sample 
  22. presentation. You can load the file, run it as a slide show, 
  23. and look at all the views to see how a typical Persuasion 
  24. presentation can be put together. XCHARSET.PR2 contains a 
  25. table of ANSI characters and the key codes you can use to 
  26. produce them.

  28. The PR2US directory contains the following text-only (.TXT) 
  29. files.  You can use any text editor or word-processing 
  30. program to display or print them.  Other disks included in 
  31. the Persuasion package may also contain .TXT files.

  54. This section is divided into nine parts:

  68. Disk space considerations 
  69.  
  70. Persuasion requires approximately 15k of free space on the disk 
  71. on which a file is saved in order to commit changes to the file. 
  72. In order to make sure that this space is available, it is a 
  73. good idea to work on files which have been saved to a hard disk, 
  74. rather than to a floppy disk.  In the event that the disk is 
  75. filled during a work session, your most recent changes may be 
  76. lost.  Should this happen, switch to the Windows File Manager 
  77. and remove some files from the disk, or, exit Persuasion and 
  78. copy the file to a disk with more room.  Then restart 
  79. Persuasion and reopen the file.

  82. A Change to the Documentation
  83.  
  84. The "Slide setup" and "Notes setup" dialog boxes differ from 
  85. their representation in the printed documentation. The options
  86. for standard sizes have been replaced with a drop-down list 
  87. box labeled "Slide" or "Page." To specify a non-standard
  88. --or custom--size, choose "custom" for "Slide" or "Page," 
  89. and then enter the dimensions you want in the text boxes 
  90. for "Slide dimensions" or "Page dimensions."

  93. Layering Slides
  94.  
  95. The drawing layer must always be an active layer. If you 
  96. forget to include the drawing layer when you specify active 
  97. layers (in the "Set layers" dialog box), Persuasion will 
  98. automatically change the dialog box to add the drawing layer 
  99. to the active layers you've specified.
  100.  
  101. When assigning automatic layering (the "Build layers..." 
  102. command from the Master menu) to a pie chart, select the "by 
  103. series" option, rather than "by categories."
  104.  
  105.  
  106. Working with Charts, Tables, and Data Sheets
  107.  
  108. Even though the maximum dimensions of the data sheet are 256 
  109. by 256, you can enter 8192 values.
  110.  
  111. When selecting a chart that has a transparent background 
  112. with the pointer or chart tool, click on a visible chart 
  113. element. Also, the upper-left corner to the chart tool icon 
  114. is the "hot spot" for selection.
  115.  
  116. You cannot import a chart which is part of an Excel 3.0 .XLS 
  117. file; only charts created as .XLC files can be imported.
  118.  
  119. If you are creating a table that contains soft returns 
  120. (Shift + Enter) in the data, you must enter the soft 
  121. returns on the slide rather than in the data sheet. Enter 
  122. the data without the soft returns in the data sheet, select 
  123. the options you want in the "Chart info" dialog box, and 
  124. then click "OK." Go to the slide containing the table, and
  125. add the soft returns. Open the "Chart info" dialog box, and 
  126. then click "OK" so that the cells readjust to the new line 
  127. lengths. (Only the first line will display in the data 
  128. sheet, but the table will display accurately on the slide.)

  130. When slides containing placeholder charts are copied and 
  131. pasted to another slide, the new chart on the target slide 
  132. will show a custom format of "none" in the "Chart info" 
  133. dialog box. This is done to preserve any format changes you 
  134. may have added to the chart. You can change the custom 
  135. format assignment to "placeholder" or another custom format 
  136. by selecting the chart, opening the "Chart info" dialog box, 
  137. selecting "placeholder" or a format from the "Custom chart 
  138. format" list, and then clicking "OK.". Keep in mind that by 
  139. doing so, your local overrides to the format will be lost.

  142. Working with Slide Masters
  143.  
  144. When you copy slide masters from an AutoTemplate that uses a 
  145. different page size or orientation, Persuasion displays a 
  146. warning message: "Page size or orientation of imported 
  147. masters does not match target presentation.  Text and 
  148. graphics could require significant adjustment. Continue?"  
  149. If you click "OK," the masters will be copied, but you will 
  150. need to check each slide in the presentation and make 
  151. adjustments as necessary.
  152.  
  153. If you use TIF, or bitmap, images in a custom AutoTemplate, 
  154. copy and paste the images rather than importing them. This 
  155. method ensures that the AutoTemplate is not dependent upon 
  156. an externally-linked image file. Thus, the AutoTemplate will 
  157. be easier to move from one work environment to another.
  158.

  160. Working with Graphics
  161.  
  162. TIF images displayed on an 8514 display device which has 
  163. minimum memory (256k) may cause Persuasion to exit 
  164. unexpectedly. If you must display TIF images, add more 
  165. memory to the 8514 display card.
  166.  
  167.  
  168. Importing and Exporting Files
  169.  
  170. When exporting text files that have "soft returns" (Shift + 
  171. Enter), Persuasion converts the soft returns into spaces.
  172.  
  173. The PageMaker Time/Date-Stamp import filter does not work 
  174. with Persuasion. Use the special character codes for time and 
  175. date provided in the Persuasion User Manual.
  176.  
  177. Word for Windows files (.DOC) containing tables or in-line 
  178. graphics do not import into Persuasion correctly. 
  179.  
  180. To copy and paste TIF files from PageMaker to Persuasion, 
  181. both PageMaker and Persuasion must have a high resolution 
  182. option set. In PageMaker, use "Preferences..." and select 
  183. "High resolution." For Persuasion, set "HiResTiff = 1" in 
  184. ALDUS.INI, and then restart Persuasion.
  185.  
  186. If portions of an imported graphic disappear when you 
  187. ungroup it, the ungrouped elements have exceeded the 
  188. available memory. Delete the file, and import it again.
  189.  
  190. For imported EPS files, you must have the appropriate fonts 
  191. available on your computer before you attempt to print your 
  192. slides. You must also download the font to the printer by 
  193. adding a space character from that font to the slide that 
  194. contains the imported EPS file. Otherwise, the EPS file will 
  195. not print.
  196.  
  197. Exported slides containing graduated-fill backgrounds may 
  198. appear banded when imported to other applications. The 
  199. Windows Metafile format (.WMF) used for exporting slides 
  200. does not provide a method for accurately representing 
  201. graduated fills. As a result, Persuasion exports a close 
  202. approximation of the graduated fill that is a series of 
  203. small rectangles, each with a slightly different color.
  204.  
  205. To move a slide from one presentation to another, use the 
  206. "Cut" or "Copy" and "Paste" commands. If you use "Export" 
  207. and "Place...," the slide will be imported in Windows 
  208. Metafile format which, if ungrouped, will cause any text to 
  209. be converted to a very small point size. (This problem can 
  210. also be solved by selecting the text and readjusting its 
  211. point size.)
  212.  
  213. You can receive the message "Filter currently in use by 
  214. another application" under the following conditions: you 
  215. have clicked "Cancel" in the "Place" dialog box, chosen 
  216. "Place...," and then selected the same file type as before. 
  217. To solve this problem, close Persuasion and re-open it 
  218. again.
  219.  
  220.  
  221. Printing
  222.  
  223. Twenty-four-bit color TIF images may print unpredictably
  224. when using the HP Paintjet Series 1.0 printer driver. If the 
  225. printing fails, try again. Printing a second time may be
  226. successful. Alternatively, try the HP Paintjet Series printer 
  227. driver that came with Microsoft Windows.
  228.  
  229. If a pie chart contains a wedge with an angle greater than 
  230. 180 degrees, it can print with missing lines in the depth 
  231. portion of the chart on a Hewlett-Packard Laserjet printer 
  232. under the following conditions: you are printing at a 
  233. resolution of 300 dpi, and you have chosen the option "Proof 
  234. print."
  235.  
  236. Objects pasted into a presentation from Adobe Typealign, 
  237. which have then been stretched or moved, may not be printed 
  238. in the correct locations on PostScript printers. To correct 
  239. this problem, edit the "CustomPlayMetafile" entry in 
  240. ALDUS.INI to be equal to "0". If you have similar 
  241. difficulties with other applications, remove this entry from 
  242. ALDUS.INI.
  243.  
  244.  
  245. Running a slide show
  246.  
  247. When you want to run a slide show on a different machine 
  248. than the one on which it was created, be sure that the 
  249. target machine has the fonts you used in your presentation. 
  250. Otherwise, you may encounter font substitutions that alter 
  251. the look of your slides.
  252.  
  253.  
  254. Using the slide sorter
  255.  
  256. You may encounter unexpected text on neighboring slides in 
  257. the slide sorter under the following conditions: you have 
  258. collapsed an organization chart in Outline view to either 
  259. the title level or a lower level, you selected that slide in 
  260. the slide sorter, you copied and pasted it to a new location,
  261. and then you chose "Undo." To solve the problem, select the 
  262. slide on which the unexpected text has occurred and choose 
  263. "Reapply master." Do not attempt to delete the spurious 
  264. text.
  265.
