- Part 1: What is the Professional Toolkit for Visual Basic?
- ===========================================================================
- The Professional Toolkit for Visual Basic includes the Custom Control
- development kit, the Help Compiler 3.0, the Windows 3.0 API reference
- (on-line only), the Visual Basic Setup Kit (to help you write your
- setup programs), and 21 new custom controls needed by the professional
- Visual Basic programmer including Grid, MDI, OLE, Multimedia, Windows
- for Pen Computing, 3D Controls, Business Graphing and more. New sample
- code, business clipart, toolbar button bitmaps, and the Visual Basic
- Knowledge Base (including the known VB 1.0 bug list) round off the product.
-
-
- Part 2: Software Installation Information
- ===========================================================================
- The Professional Toolkit is an extension of Visual Basic 1.0, and not a
- replacement. Therefore, if you have not installed Visual Basic 1.0, you
- will have to install both. It does not matter which you install first.
-
- If you already installed Visual Basic 1.0, all you need to do is
- install the Professional Toolkit by running SETUP.EXE on
- Professional Toolkit DISK 1.
-
- Before installing the Professional Toolkit you should make backup copies
- of all the distribution disks. Do not write-protect the distribution disks
- you use to install the Professional Toolkit. If you do, the Professional
- Toolkit cannot be successfully installed.
-
- IMPORTANT: Ensure that the Windows directory, including drive letter,
- is in your PATH. If the drive letter is not included in your PATH statement,
- the Professional Toolkit will be unable to determine where Windows resides.
-
- SETUP.EXE is a Windows application; that is, it is run from Windows, rather
- than from the DOS prompt. SETUP.EXE will only run in Windows Standard or
- Enhanced mode. It will not run in Real mode. You can determine how Windows
- is configured on your computer by choosing About from the Help menu in the
- Program Manager.
-
- To run setup, use Program Manager or File Manager to start SETUP.EXE as
- you would any other Windows application. For example, if you
- are installing from A:
-
- 1. From the Program Manager File menu, choose Run.
-
- 2. In the Run dialog box, type A:SETUP and choose OK.
-
- IMPORTANT: Remember, the Professional Toolkit Setup program does not
- install Visual Basic. You must set up Visual Basic separately.
- It does not matter which you set up first.
-
- Most of the files on these disks are compressed and must be expanded before
- they can be used. For Visual Basic to work properly, you must install the
- files using SETUP.EXE. You cannot simply copy the files to your hard disk.
