  3.        Why GIF?
  4.  
  5.                 Graphics Interchange Format was developed so
  6.                 graphic images could be viewed and stored on
  7.                 different hardware platforms without any further
  8.                 conversions.  It incorporates compression for
  9.                 image storage thus greatly reduces the file size
  10.                 while maintaining the original image quality.
  11.  
  12.                 Currently GIF supports only upto 256 colors (8
  13.                 bits), but remains a popular choice for image
  14.                 display and transfter because its small file
  15.                 size and the abundence of utility that supports
  16.                 it.

  19.        Viewing GIF Files
  20.  
  21.                 There are many shareware and public domain GIF
  22.                 viewers for DOS and Windows (ie. cshow, vpic,
  23.                 winGIF, etc.)  They are available at most BBSs
  24.                 or various anonymous ftp sites. Please carefully
  25.                 read all documentations come with the programs
  26.                 before using them.

  28.                 Included is the PICEM public domain image viewing
  29.                 program written by John Bridges. To start PICEM,
