- ********** ANSYS-PC Graphics Drivers **********
-
- The ANSYS-PC programs are supplied with eight (8) graphics drivers that
- support different graphics devices. Which driver to use is determined by
- the type of hardware available to the user. A graphics driver MUST be
- loaded before entering any ANSYS routine.
-
- The graphics drivers available are: HERCULES, MEDIUM, ENHANCED, EGA256,
- PROF, VMI1024, GPR, and HP7475.
- A brief description of each of the drivers is given in the following
- paragraphs. In general, the HERCULES and MEDIUM drivers are not recommended.
- ________________________________________________________________________________
-
- HERCULES Driver (Not Recommended)
-
- Hardware: Monitor - Standard (medium) resolution color (or monochrome)
- graphics monitor
- Board - Hercules (or compatible) Monochrome Graphics Card
-
- Resolution - 720 x 348
-
- Colors - None. However, 16 (monochrome) area-fill patterns are available.
-
- Menu Mode - Yes; Light source shading - No
-
- Plot storage - Plots can be stored sequentially (as frames) on
- GRAPHIC.DAT file.
-
- Plot display - Plots can be displayed interactively within the ANSYS
- program or, if stored on the GRAPHIC.DAT file, can be
- displayed using the DISPHRC program.
-
- Animation - The DISPHRC program can be used to display stored plots
- (up to 8 frames) in sequence for an "animation" effect.
-
- Hard copies - There is no "screen dump" option available.
- Use the GPR driver, which directs the plot to an
- IBM (or compatible) graphics printer. If a HP-7475
- plotter is available, use the HP7475 driver.
- ________________________________________________________________________________
-
- MEDIUM Driver (Not Recommended)
-
- Hardware: Monitor - Standard (medium) resolution color graphics monitor
- Board - IBM (or compatible) Color Graphics Adapter (CGA)
-
- Resolution - 320 x 200
-
- Colors - 9 (dithering used with 4 available basic colors)
-
- Menu Mode - No; Light source shading - No
-
- Plot storage - Plots can be stored sequentially (as frames) on
- GRAPHIC.DAT file.
-
- Plot display - Plots can be displayed interactively within the ANSYS
- program or, if stored on the GRAPHIC.DAT file, can be
- displayed using the DISPLAY program.
-
- Animation - The DISPLAY program can be used to display stored plots
- (up to 8 frames) in sequence for an "animation" effect.
-
- Hard copies - The "Print Screen" key can be used to "dump" the screen on
- to a printer. The DOS GRAPHICS command must be issued,
- beforehand, at the system level. If a screen dump is not
- desired, use the GPR driver, which directs the plot to an
- IBM (or compatible) graphics printer. If a HP-7475 plotter
- is available, use the HP7475 driver.
-
- Note: Some characters in the dialog portion of the plots are truncated
- due to the size of characters on a medium resolution monitor.
- This may affect, in some cases, the contour label values on
- contour plots (but not the contour plot itself). In that event,
- use the PRINT commands to list the desired values.
- ________________________________________________________________________________
-
- ENHANCED Driver
-
- Hardware: Monitor - High (enhanced) resolution color graphics monitor
- Board - IBM (or compatible) Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA)
- board with at least 128K of memory
-
- Resolution - 640 x 350
-
- Colors - 16; Light source shading - No
-
- Menu Mode - Yes. However, separate graphics and text planes are not
- available. This means that a listing requested while in the
- menu mode, or choosing the HELP option provided by the menu
- mode, will overwrite the plot area and the plot will have to
- be recreated. Similarly, a /T issued while in the menu mode
- switches to the text mode, but the plot is lost and will have
- to be recreated.
-
-
- Plot storage - Plots can be stored sequentially (as frames) on GRAPHIC.DAT
- file.
-
- Plot display - Plots can be displayed interactively within the ANSYS
- program or, if stored on the GRAPHIC.DAT file, can be
- displayed using the DISPLAH program.
-
- Animation - The DISPLAH program can be used to display stored plots
- (up to 3 frames) in sequence for an "animation" effect.
-
- Hard copies - The "Print Screen" key can be used to "dump" the screen on
- to a printer. However, an advanced printer or special
- software (not supplied with your ANSYS-PC product) is
- required for the "interface" between the screen and the
- printer. Several software programs are available for
- screen dumps from an enhanced resolution monitor to
- standard dot matrix printers. See your local dealer or a
- PC magazine for details. If a screen dump is not desired,
- use the GPR driver, which directs the plot to an IBM (or
- compatible) graphics printer. If a HP-7475 plotter is
- available, use the HP7475 driver.

-
- EGA256 Driver
-
- Hardware: Monitor - High (enhanced) resolution color graphics monitor
- Board - IBM (or compatible) Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA)
- board with 256K of memory
-
- Resolution - 640 x 350
-
- Colors - 16; Light source shading - No
-
- Menu Mode - Yes. Separate graphics and text planes are available.
-
- Plot storage - Plots can be stored sequentially (as frames) on GRAPHIC.DAT
- file.
-
- Plot display - Plots can be displayed interactively within the ANSYS
- program or, if stored on the GRAPHIC.DAT file, can be
- displayed using the DISPL256 program.
-
- Animation - Yes. The DISPL256 program can be used to display two (2)
- frames in sequence for an "animation" effect.
-
- Hard copies - The "Print Screen" key can be used to "dump" the screen on
- to a printer. However, an advanced printer or special
- software (not supplied with your ANSYS-PC product) is
- required for the "interface" between the screen and the
- printer. Several software programs are available for
- screen dumps from an enhanced resolution monitor to
- standard dot matrix printers. See your local dealer or a
- PC magazine for details. If a screen dump is not desired,
- use the GPR driver, which directs the plot to an IBM (or
- compatible) graphics printer. If a HP-7475 plotter is
- available, use the HP7475 driver.
