- A VGA monitor is necessary to run Wingz Test Flight.
Printers
- When using the HP LaserJet or DeskJet printer drivers underlying text may bleed through overlaying objects when printed. Wingz and several other Windows applications experience this problem. To work around this problem, you may either move the objects so that they do not overlay any text information, or you may hide the sheet before printing (by using the Show Sheet action in the Window pull-down).
Another solution for the above described problem, is the use of a product called SuperPrint from Zenographics, Inc. This product utilizes a printing architecture which resolves the "text bleed through" problem and actually produces Wingz output faster than the Windows driver. In addition, it produces WYSIWYG screen and printer fonts and includes a queuing application that frees up your PC much faster than the standard Windows 3.0 print cycle. SuperPrint is available for HP LaserJets, DeskJets, and PaintJets from Zenographics at (714) 851-6352.
- Output may not be received when printing certain patterns using either the PacificPage or PacificPage PE postscript emulation cartridge (version 3.1 and earlier versions) for the HP Series II and III printers. The cartridge manufacturer, Pacific Data Products, expects to correct the problem in their 3.2 version. Set the cell grid pattern to a solid pattern, hide the cell grid, or hide the sheet to work around the problem until the corrected version is available from Pacific Data Products.
- Some print drivers have difficulty printing certain color combinations. You may need to vary your color combinations and patterns to achieve the desired printed effect.
- Single lines (e.g., cell grids, object borders) may be omitted when printing at a low resolution on an HP printer. Increase the resolution to correct the problem.
- There are two reasons why output may not be received when printing detailed or large worksheets. First, this problem can occur when your printer lacks sufficient memory to process the print job. Set the cell grid pattern to a solid pattern, hide the cell grid, or hide the sheet to work around the problem. Second, you may lack the hard disk space needed by the print spooler. Wingz sends printing information to the spooler, which stores the information and routes it to the printer. If you do not have the space needed by the spooler to store the information, output is not received. To correct this, provide more available hard disk space or disable the spooler. You can disable the spooler by unchecking the "Use Print Manager" check box in the Printers pop-up window under the Control Panel.
Plotters
- Plotters are not directly supported by Wingz but may work when you limit the worksheet to one page and plot only simple charts without patterns.
Formulas
- There are several references in the documentation that indicate a formula may contain up to 1023 characters. This number actually depends on the complexity of the formula and the internal method of storing it.
Fonts
- To maintain the highest quality (e.g., letter quality) of printouts, "printer-only" fonts are recommended. Screen fonts do not print as well. In Wingz, printer-only fonts are designated by an asterisk in the Font pop-up window under the Format pull-down. When you select a printer-only font, the closest matching system font is displayed in the worksheet or script. However, the "printer-only" font appears in Page Preview and on the actual printed output.
Objects
- Windows allows an object to be enlarged greater than 22 inches. When this occurs on a 286 machine, the object disappears; on a 386, the colors invert. Reduce the size of the object to return it to normal.
- When a large object is located on your worksheet, your vertical or horizontal scroll arrows may appear to stick when clicked. This can cause your worksheet to scroll. Move the mouse outside of the scroll bars and click to stop the scrolling.
Autosave
- Autosave always saves the backup file in your Wingz directory.
Page Preview
- Page preview provides you with an idea of how your worksheet will look on a printed page. Page preview does not always provide an exact representation of what can be expected on the printout. For example, charts may display fine in the worksheet and in page preview but not have enough chart space to properly print. To correct this, enlarge the chart area and print again.
Controls
- Control titles use the "System" font for names and titles. You can enlarge the System font size to change the character size for control titles when printing.
