  5. This file contains the information you need to start using the
  6. MotelMAX program.  Much more detail is supplied in the user manual which
  7. you can view while using the program or which you might choose to print.
  8.  
  9. This is a full functioning version of MotelMAX.  It is not crippled,
  10. time-trapped or nobbled in any way.  All data you enter into this evaluation
  11. version can be transferred to the registered version or to any later version
  12. of MotelMAX.
  13.  
  14. This evaluation version supports up to fifty rooms.  Other versions support
  15. more rooms and provide additional functions such as reservations and advance
  16. deposits depending on your needs.  Refer to the file ORDER.DOC for
  17. registration and version details.

  19. When you become a registered user of MotelMAX, you will receive the latest
  20. version of the program with all shareware notices removed, a printed user
  21. manual and 90 days of free technical support.  Also, your copy of MotelMAX
  22. will be personalized with your Property or Site Name (max 35 characters)
  23. which will appear on all invoices and reports.  The registered version also
  24. has the ability to add new usernames and passwords and to limit a user's
  25. access to only certain portions of the program.

  27. MotelMAX comes preset with sample room set-ups and rate tables so you can
  28. get started right away.  Appendix B of the user manual includes a brief
  29. tutorial and within a few minutes, you should be able to check-in guests
  30. and begin posting charges and payments to their folio.  After you can
  31. configure MotelMAX to include your own rates and room set-ups.  In this
  32. evaluation version, all users have access to all portions of the program.
  33. In the registered version, typically, you would limit access to accounting
  34. information only to certain users.

  44. 1. Installation
  45. ===============

  47.      1.1  Make sure you are in the 'root' directory of your hard
  48.           drive, type:

  52.      1.2  Make a directory on your hard drive called MotelMAX.

  56.      1.3  Move to the MotelMAX directory.

  60.      1.4  Copy the file MTLMAX.EXE into the MotelMAX directory.  If
  61.           the file is on a floppy drive you would type:

  63.                 COPY A:MTLMAX.EXE  \MotelMAX <Enter>

  65.           If the MTLMAX.EXE file is in another directory of your hard
  66.           drive, for example, '\download' you would enter:

  70.      1.5  Unpack the MTLMAX.EXE file by typing:

  72.                 MTLMAX <Enter>

  74.           You will notice that the MotelMAX program now uncrunches and
  75.           installs in your MotelMAX Directory.  When this is done, you
  76.           can get rid of the install file on your hard drive
  77.           (carefully) by entering this command:

  81. 2.  Starting the MotelMAX Program - Username and Password

  84.      Once the installation is complete.  Start the program by
  85.      entering the command:

  89.      If you have a monochrome monitor, you can force MotelMAX to
  90.      display in monochrome by entering the command:

  92.           MotelMAX M <Enter>

  94.      The initial screen is the shareware sign-on screen.  This
  95.      screen can be exited by pressing the keys <ALT-F10>.  You can
  96.      also press <F5> to view a list of other versions of MotelMAX.
  97.      Review the screen and if you choose to use MotelMAX please
  98.      register and support the shareware concept.  The shareware
  99.      screen is not in the registered version of the program.

  101.      MotelMAX will prompt you for a user name and a password.  For
  102.      your initial sign-on, type:

  104.                 Username...:  MOTELMAX <Enter>
  105.                 Password...:  MOTELMAX <Enter>
  106.  
  107.      This evaluation version has a few sample usernames.  The registered
  108.      version let's you create your own usernames and passwords.  Also,
  109.      each user you define can only access the parts of the program that
  110.      you choose to permit, for example, check-in's / reservations, front
  111.      desk, reports, file set-up's and accounting.

  113. 3. Packing List
  114. ===============

  116.      If you receive the MotelMAX program from a bulletin board, the entire
  117.      program and all files will be packed into a single file called
  118.      MTLMAX.EXE.
  119.  
  120.      Once you unpack the file MTLMAX.EXE you should have the following
  121.      files:

  123.         README.1ST    - this program file
  124.         ORDER.DOC     - registration / order form.
  125.         VENDOR.DOC    - vendor distribution information.
  126.         FILE_ID.DIZ   - BBS identification.

  140.      IMPORTANT - After you unpack these files, you should delete the file
  141.      MTLMAX.EXE to avoid unpacking the file a second time.  The DOS
  142.      delete command to accomplish this is:

  147. 4. Printing the MotelMAX User Manual
  148. ====================================

  150.      Once you complete the installation, you can print a copy of the
  151.      MotelMAX User Manual (about 80 pages).  The manual is in a file
  152.      called MotelMAX.DOC.  Print the file using the DOS print
  153.      command:

  155.                 PRINT MotelMAX.DOC <Enter> <Enter>

  157. 5. MotelMAX - Misc
  158. ==================

  160.      5.1   Time Sensitive - MotelMAX is date and time sensitive
  161.            so be sure your computer is set to the correct date and
  162.            time.
  163.  
  164.      5.2   Self-Maintaining - MotelMAX builds the files it needs.  Some
  165.            of these file structures are time based.  Again, it is
  166.            important for your computer to be set with the correct date
  167.            and time.  MotelMAX does a mini tune-up each time you close
  168.            an account month.  You can do the same thing any time by
  169.            starting the program with the command:  MOTELMAX NEW <Enter>
  170.  
  171.      5.3   Compatibility - All prior versions of MotelMAX are
  172.            compatible with later versions of the program.  Any data
  173.            that you enter in version 1.52 can be used in later versions
  174.            of the program.  If you upgrade to another version of MotelMAX,
  175.            with additional features, you can still re-use any information
  176.            you have entered into the program.  You will not have to re-key
  177.            old set-up, rate or reservation data.

  179.      5.4   Printer Set-up - MotelMAX will print some reports in condensed
  180.            or compress print mode.  It needs to know what kind of printer you
  181.            are using and the correct printer codes to make your printer work
  182.            in compressed mode.  If you have any trouble locating these codes,
  183.            please contact us.  We have printer codes for several hundred
  184.            printers, too many to list here.  Configuring MotelMAX for your
  185.            printer is very simple, once you know the printer codes.
