  3. Thank for purchasing PC Globe 4.0.
  4.  
  5. We are delighted to inform you of an additional enhancement that
  6. is not mentioned in your manual.  In the CURRENCY CONVERSION utility,
  7. it is now possible to edit and save new currency exchange rates
  8. as often as you wish.  To do so, follow these instructions:
  9.  
  10. - Before starting PC Globe, be sure that your DOS computer clock is 
  11.   set at the correct date.  This is important because the CURRENCY
  12.   CONVERSION utility automatically inputs the new date based on your
  13.   computer clock.  To check your computer clock, type DATE next to
  14.   your DOS prompt.
  15.  
  16. - To edit the entire list of currency exchange rates, place the cursor
  17.   over CURRENCY CONVERSION on the UTILITIES menu and press <enter>
  18.   or mouse <left>.  Then place the cursor over EDIT EXCHANGE RATES and
  19.   press <enter> or mouse <left>.  A list of currencies with their 
  20.   respective exchange rates will be displayed.  You may edit the numbers
  21.   on this list based on the new information available to you.  To save
  22.   your changes, press <ins>.

  24. - For editing the currency exchange list, we recommend that you use
  25.   the interbank rates of exchange listed in your daily newspaper.  One
  26.   of the best lists available appears every Monday in the Wall Street
  27.   Journal.  This list is prepared by BankAmerica and includes all of 
  28.   the currencies contained in PC Globe.  The list usually appears as
  29.   a special advertisement in the third section of the paper (Money & 
  30.   Investing).

  33. If your version of PC GLOBE 4.0 program is operating smoothly, there is
  34. no need to continue reading.  The instructions below pertain to optional 
  35. installation parameters, disk configurations and printers.
  36.  
  37. OPTIONAL INSTALL PARAMETERS
  38.  
  39. It is possible to modify the installation routine by typing a hyphen and 
  40. specific letters after the word "install" as described below:
  41.  
  42. install -o
  43.  
  44.    Overrides autodetection of graphics card type.
  45.  
  46.    The INSTALL program automatically determines the type of graphics
  47.    card that your computer has.  Unfortunately, sometimes graphics cards
  48.    are not always 100% compatible and can be misidentified as invalid.
  49.    Adding -o to the command line will bypass automatic detection and
  50.    allow any graphics mode to be selected.

  54.    No status check for printer.
  55.  
  56.    If you are using a print spooler, you may need to add this parameter
  57.    in order for your printer to function properly.

  59. install -tn

  61.    Text screen delay (replace n with a number from 0 to 9).

  65.    Graphics screen delay (replace n with a number from 0 to 9).
  66.  
  67.    PC GLOBE uses graphics and text screens in order to increase performance
  68.    and optimize memory usage.  Some monitors, especially multi-frequency
  69.    monitors, will appear unstabilized and flicker when changing modes.
  70.    This option allows the user to add a delay after changing modes to
  71.    reduce or eliminate the flicker.

  74. More than one optional parameter can be included on the INSTALL command 
  75. line.  The following example would install for no status check for the 
  76. printer and set the text screen delay to 5, and the graphic screen 
  77. delay to 4:

  79. install -s -t5 -g4

  81. TRANSFERING FROM 5.25" to 3.5" DISKETTES
  82.  
  83. If you wish to make a set of 3.5" diskettes from 5.25" diskettes:
  84.        
  85.     1. Copy disk #1 of the 5.25" disks to disk #1 of the 3.5" diskette set.
  86.     2. Copy all of the files on disk #2 of the 5.25" disks to 3.5" disk #1
  87.        EXCEPT for ANTHEMS.DAT and FLAGS.DAT.
  88.     3. Copy ANTHEMS.DAT and FLAGS.DAT from disk #2 of the 5.25" disks to
  89.        3.5" disk #2.
  90.     4. Copy disk #3 of the 5.25" disk to disk #1 of the 3.5" diskette set.
  91.     5. Copy disks #4 and #5 of the 5.25" disk to disk #3 of the 3.5"
  92.        diskette set.

  97. If you wish to make a set of 5.25" diskettes from 3.5" diskettes:

  99.     1. Copy the following files from 3.5" disk #1 to 5.25" disk #1:

  102.         README.COM      VIDEO.DAT
  103.         FILLCOLO.DAT    PCGLOBE.EXE
  104.         LOGO.DAT        INSTALL.EXE

  106.     2. Copy the following files from 3.5" disk #1 to 5.25" disk #2:

  108.         MENU.DAT        TEXTMENU.DAT
  109.         NAMEDATA.DAT    WORLD.VEC
  110.         NAMES.DAT       CURRENCY.DAT

  114.     3. Copy ANTHEMS.DAT and FLAGS.DAT from 3.5" disk #2 to 5.25" disk #2
  115.     4. Copy all of the files on 3.5" disk #2 to 5.25" disk #3 EXCEPT for
  116.        ANTHEMS.DAT and FLAGS.DAT.
  117.     5. Copy COUNTRY1.DAT from 3.5" disk #3 to 5.25" disk #4
  118.     6. Copy COUNTRY2.DAT from 3.5" disk #3 to 5.25" disk #5

  120. PRINTERS
  121.  
  122. If you have a printer that is not listed, try the printer that is the most
  123. like yours.  If you have an older dot-matrix printer, try typing graphics
  124. from the dos prompt and using the shift-printscreen key to print.

  126. For some printers there will not be a difference between "Draft" and "Normal"
  127. modes.
