- Installing and Running Release 2.0 of the SmarText Builder and
- Reader on a Network
-
- =================================================================
-
- Net Server Installation:
-
- 1. Perform a standard installation from floppy disk to a
- directory on the network server.
-
- From Windows, run A:\INSTALL and follow the directions.
-
- 2. From DOS, run:
-
- A:\NETSETUP.BAT Y:\EXEPATH X:\NETPATH
-
- where Y:\EXEPATH is the directory where SmarText is
- installed and X:\NETPATH is where LICENSER.EXE and
- license sub-directories are to be located. The NETPATH
- is usually accessible only by the network administrator.
-
- 3. From Windows, run X:\NETPATH\LICENSER.EXE.
-
- Use this program to set the number of valid licenses and to
- monitor the license usage. Refer to the LICENSER.EXE on-line
- help for more information.
-
- Node Installation:
-
- 1. Install SmarText on the network server.
-
- 2. From Windows, each user should run Y:\EXEPATH\SMARTEXT.EXE or
- Y:\EXEPATH\READER.EXE, depending upon whether the user needs to
- access the Builder or the Reader.
-
- If SmarText does not find a SMARTEXT.INI (or READER.INI) file in
- a user's Windows directory, it creates one, modifies the user's
- WIN.INI file to recognize the *.STX suffix, and adds a SmarText
- icon to the user's currently active Program Manager group window.
-
- A user can move the SmarText icon to another Program Manager
- group window. For information, refer to the Microsoft Windows
- User's Guide.
-
- Note: Although the Builder operates over networks, it is not
- recommended for general browsing because it prevents multiple
- users from accessing the same document concurrently.
