Concierge - dial 2245 The hotel concierge is available to meet a wide range of the traveler's needs, including making dinner or theater reservations, directing you to area attractions, and handling any other details that will ensure your stay is a pleasant one. The Visions Motel Computer-Based Reservation System This screen may be displayed by clicking on any "Help" button or on any "Batesville Motel" logo. This application provides an example of a sophisticated application in ObjectVision. It uses many of ObjectVision 2.0's features, including database links with filters, event trapping, and connection to a DLL to provide the @WHILEFIELD function. The first screen you see is the "Guest Information" form. After filling in the required information, you may select a room in one of two ways - Visually or from a List - by clicking the appropriate button. Selecting a room from the list is simple. A list of rooms which are not already reserved for the dates specified by the Check-In Date and Check-Out Date are presented in a ObjectVision table. Scroll through the table, click on the desired room, and click on "Select" to return to the Guest Information form, where you will find the Room Number entered, and Room Rate and Room Charges automatically calculated. Optionally, you may choose a room Visually. This presents a map of the motel, with occupied rooms indicated with an "X" inside a square box. Clicking an available room returns you to the Guest Information form, which you will find completed with the appropriate information. You may also click on the Courtyard, Lobby, and Restaurant areas to display information about each. When the Guest Information form title displays (Complete), you may click on the "Store" button to confirm this reservation and insert the records into the Paradox files. For each reservation, one record is inserted into the GUESTS file, and one record for each day of the guest's stay is inserted into the RESERV file. The third database file for this application, ROOMS, is used only for lookup purposes. To explore the manner in which this application was constructed, begin with the "Guest Information" form. Look at the event trees in its buttons, following their progress to the other forms. Be aware that there is also a form called "Scratch" that holds various fields used by the @OVLOOPS DLL, and you can explore it with the Form Tool.
