  7. This file provides information on customizing MS-DOS 6.22 for international 
  8. use. This information is not included in the MICROSOFT MS-DOS USER'S 
  9. GUIDE, MS-DOS Help or the README.TXT file. It supplements the international 
  10. keyboard and character set information provided in Section 1 of the 
  11. README.TXT file that accompanied MS-DOS 6.22.

  22. 1.  Additional Character Set (Codepage) and Keyboard Support

  24. MS-DOS 6.22 includes the KEYBRD2.SYS, EGA2.CPI and EGA3.CPI files, which
  25. offer support for additional keyboards and character sets (codepages). 
  26. You use these files just as you would the KEYBOARD.SYS and EGA.CPI files. 
  27. MS-DOS also includes new country settings in COUNTRY.SYS. 
  28.  
  29. MS-DOS 6.22 includes new country settings in COUNTRY.SYS that use the
  30. new keyboards and character sets. For more information, see the tables
  31. in section 4 of this file. For a complete list of all the countries, 
  32. keyboards and character sets provided by MS-DOS 6.22, see section 4 
  33. of this file.

  35. Note: ISO.CPI, an additional codepage information file, provides 
  36.       ISO-compliant fonts that can be used in place of the standard
  37.       MS-DOS fonts. The ISO.CPI file is included in the MS-DOS Resource 
  38.       Kit; to obtain it, send in the coupon in the back of your MS-DOS
  39.       USER'S GUIDE.

  41. 1.1  The KEYBRD2.SYS File
  42. -------------------------
  43. The KEYBRD2.SYS file is essentially similar to KEYBOARD.SYS; you use it
  44. just as you would the KEYBOARD.SYS file. The differences between 
  45. KEYBOARD.SYS and KEYBRD2.SYS are:
  46.  
  47.  o  KEYBRD2.SYS contains support for the following keyboards, which
  48.     are not supported by KEYBOARD.SYS:

  62.  o  Although KEYBRD2.SYS contains a Canadian keyboard with the same
  63.     keyboard code (058) and identifier (cf) as KEYBOARD.SYS, the 
  64.     layout of the two keyboards is different. The Canadian keyboard 
  65.     layout in KEYBRD2.SYS meets the standard set forth by the Canadian 
  66.     government's specification 243.200-92 (CAN/CSA-Z). The keyboard
  67.     layout in KEYBOARD.SYS is more commonly used, but does not meet 
  68.     Canadian government specifications.

  70.  o  The KEYBRD2.SYS file does not include support for the following
  71.     keyboards supported by KEYBOARD.SYS:

  84.  o  KEYBRD2.SYS contains changes to the German keyboard that are
  85.     not in KEYBOARD.SYS. In the German keyboard, the SHIFT lock 
  86.     behavior of the top row of the keyboard is now functionally 
  87.     the same as the US keyboard (that is, "typewriter mode" 
  88.     has been removed).

  90. 1.2  The EGA.CPI, EGA2.CPI, and EGA3.CPI Files
  91. ----------------------------------------------
  92. MS-DOS 6.22 includes three codepage information (.CPI) files, each
  93. of which contains information for different code pages.

  95. EGA.CPI contains the following:

  98.     850 - Multilingual (Latin I)
  99.     852 - Slavic/Eastern European (Latin II)
  100.     860 - Portuguese
  101.     863 - Canadian-French

  104. EGA2.CPI contains the following:

  107.     850 - Multilingual (Latin I)
  108.     852 - Slavic/Eastern European (Latin II)

  121. 1.3  Configuring Your Computer to Use International-Language Settings

  123. To use country settings or a character set other than the standard
  124. ones (United States), you must edit your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT
  125. files.

  127. For example, to use the new Icelandic settings, carry out the 
  128. following steps:

  130. 1. Add the following commands to your CONFIG.SYS file:

  132.     REM  ICELAND SETTINGS
  133.     COUNTRY=354,861,C:\DOS\COUNTRY.SYS

  146. 2.  Switching Between Modes on Dual-Mode Keyboards
  147. ==================================================
  148. MS-DOS 6.22 includes dual-mode keyboard support for Greek, 
  149. French Canadian,  Bulgarian, Serbia/Montenegro, and Russian keyboards. 
  150. These keyboards allow you to easily switch between two different 
  151. keyboard modes. When your computer starts with one of these keyboards, 
  152. the primary mode is active. To switch modes, press the appropriate 
  153. key combination (listed below).

  155. The key combinations for the Greek keyboard are as follows:

  257.     currency, etc.) associated with code pages 862 (Hebrew), 864 (Arabic), 
  258.     932 (Japanese), 934 (Korean), 936 (PRC Chinese), and 938 (Taiwanese), 
  259.     those character sets (code pages) are available only with the
  260.     associated special versions of MS-DOS (Hebrew, Arabic, Japanese, 
  261.     Korean, PRC Chinese, and Taiwanese).

  263.  ** Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, and Singapore have been added to COUNTRY.SYS
  264.     to give access to these countries' settings when using Universal English.
  265.     If you need to use settings for one of these countries using the primary 
  266.     language for that country, contact the appropriate International 
  267.     Microsoft Office (Microsoft Hong Kong Limited, Microsoft Systems Private 
  268.     Limited (India), Microsoft Malaysia Sdn Bhd, or Microsoft Singapore Pte 
  269.     Ltd).
