  12.   BEFORE INSTALLING THE ODBC DDDK
  13.  
  14.   1.  IMPORTANT: If Microsoft Windows is installed in a write-protected network 
  15.        directory, a person with write privileges to the Windows directory must install 
  16.        this product.
  17.  
  18.   2.  Review the Product Release Notes, if any, for special instructions pertaining to
  19.        the installation of this product.
  20.  
  21.   3.  Be sure that no Powersoft products or the Watcom SQL engine are running.
  22.

  24.   TO INSTALL THE ODBC DDDK
  25.  
  26.   1.  Insert the diskette labeled "Disk 1 of 3" into the floppy drive of your computer.
  27.  
  28.   2.  Run the SETUP program on the diskette.  You can do this in one of three ways.
  29.        (This example uses Drive A, however, your floppy drive may be a different letter.)
  30.  
  31.            *  From the DOS prompt, type:  WIN A:\SETUP
  32.            *  From Windows Program Manager, choose File/Run and type:  A:\SETUP
  33.            *  From Windows File Manager, double-click on the SETUP.EXE file on Drive A.

  35.   3.  Below is a brief description of what is installed when you make your selections:
  36.  
  37.            *  Powersoft ODBC Deployment Kit:  Files necessary for you to run your
  38.                PowerBuilder executable files.  When you make this selection, the ODBC
  39.                Interface files required to run your executables are also installed in the
  40.                target directory.  Therefore, you do not need to install the Powersoft
  41.                ODBC Interface selection when installing the ODBC Deployment Kit.
  42.            *  Open Database Connectivity Drivers:  Based on your selections, the
  43.                appropriate vendor ODBC drivers are installed in your Windows system
  44.                subdirectory (for example, c:\windows\system).
  45.            *  Powersoft ODBC Interface:  Files necessary for you to connect to databases
  46.                using ODBC drivers within the PowerBuilder environment.  You should
  47.                always install ODBC Interface files in your PowerBuilder directory.

  49.   4.  The installation procedure will prompt you:
  50.  
  51.            *  When the procedure needs the next diskette or more information, or when
  52.                it requires a decision to change or replace files.  Respond to the prompts
  53.                and select options as appropriate.  Your AUTOEXEC.BAT is not modified
  54.                when installing the ODBC Interface.
  55.  
  56.            *  When the procedure finds existing Powersoft initialization (*.INI) files in
  57.                the target directory or newer versions of ODBC drivers in your Windows
  58.                system subdirectory, such as ODBC.DLL and ODBCINST.DLL.  If you are
  59.                unsure as to how to proceed, we suggest that you consult your system
  60.                administrator for direction.

  62.            *  When the procedure is ready to update your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  You can
  63.                choose to let the installation procedure change the existing file, create a
  64.                new file for you, or proceed without making any file changes.  Your
  65.                AUTOEXEC.BAT is not modified when installing only the ODBC Interface.

  67.   5.  Exit to DOS and verify that the Powersoft ODBC DDDK directory is included
  68.        in your DOS PATH command.  This will happen automatically if you let the
  69.        installation procedure update your AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the previous step.
  70.        The DOS PATH is not modified when installing the ODBC Interface files
  71.        because they should be installed in your existing PowerBuilder directory.

  73.   6.  Re-boot your PC and start Windows.
