  12.   BEFORE INSTALLING POWERBUILDER
  13.  
  14.   1.  IMPORTANT:  If Microsoft Windows is installed in a write-protected network 
  15.        directory, a person with write privileges to the Windows directory must install 
  16.        this product.
  17.  
  18.   2.  Review the Product Release Notes, if any, for special instructions pertaining to
  19.        the installation of this product.
  20.  
  21.   3.  Be sure that no Powersoft products or the Watcom SQL engine are running.
  22.  
  23.  
  24.   TO INSTALL POWERBUILDER
  25.  
  26.   1.  Insert the diskette labeled "Disk 1 of 5" into the floppy drive of your computer.
  27.  
  28.   2.  Run the SETUP program on the diskette.  You can do this in one of three ways.
  29.        (This example uses Drive A, however, your floppy drive may be a different letter.)
  30.  
  31.            *  From the DOS prompt, type:  WIN A:\SETUP
  32.            *  From Windows Program Manager, choose File/Run and type:  A:\SETUP
  33.            *  From Windows File Manager, double-click on the SETUP.EXE file on Drive A.

  35.   3.  Below is a brief description of what is installed when you make your selections:
  36.  
  37.            *  PowerBuilder Enterprise Edition:  Includes all files necessary to run the
  38.                Powersoft PowerBuilder development environment.  When installing this
  39.                selection, the PowerBuilder ODBC Database driver and initialization file,
  40.                PBODB030.DLL and PBODB030.INI, are installed in the PowerBuilder
  41.                directory.
  42.            *  Sample Application:  Files that provide a collection of examples which 
  43.                demonstrate PowerBuilder features.  Although this is optional, we
  44.                recommend that you install it.
  45.            *  PowerBuilder Sample Database:  Installs the PowerBuilder Demo Database
  46.                and Database Log files.  This is a prerequisite when installing the Sample
  47.                Application.
  48.            *  WATCOM SQL:  Installs files to run WATCOM SQL in the PowerBuilder
  49.                environment.  This option is required when installing the Sample
  50.                Application.
  51.            *  Open Database Connectivity Drivers:  Based on your selections, the
  52.                appropriate vendor ODBC drivers are installed in your Windows system
  53.                subdirectory (for example, c:\windows\system).
  54.  
  55.   4.  The installation procedure will prompt you:
  56.  
  57.            *  When the procedure needs the next diskette or more information, or when
  58.                it requires a decision to change or replace files.  Respond to the prompts
  59.                and select options as appropriate.
  60.  
  61.            *  When the procedure finds existing Powersoft initialization (*.INI) files in
  62.                the target directory or newer versions of ODBC drivers in your Windows
  63.                system subdirectory, such as ODBC.DLL and ODBCINST.DLL.  If you are
  64.                unsure as to how to proceed, we suggest that you consult your system
  65.                administrator for direction.
  66.    
  67.            *  When the procedure is ready to update your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  You can
  68.                choose to let the installation procedure change the existing file, create a
  69.                new file for you, or proceed without making any file changes.
  70.  
  71.            *  When the procedure is ready to add the PowerBuilder and WATCOM
  72.                program items to a Program Manager group.  You can choose to let the
  73.                installation procedure create the Program Group and add the Program
  74.                Items.  To familiarize yourself with the Program Items, we strongly
  75.                recommend that you allow this installation procedure to create the
  76.                Program Group, and delete any unnecessary Program Items afterwards.

  78.   5.  Exit to DOS and verify that the Powersoft directory(s) is included in your DOS
  79.        PATH command.  This will happen automatically if you let the installation
  80.        procedure update your AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the previous step.

  82.   6.  Re-boot your PC and start Windows.
