  6. WHAT IS FILESTAR/2?
  7.  
  8. FileStar/2 is an OS/2 Presentation Manager file management program.
  9. It blends power and simplicity for the maintenance and manipulation of 
  10. files in an OS/2 environment.  It has limited connectivity to the 
  11. Work Place Shell through a drag and drop interface.  It can be used to 
  12. start other DOS, Windows and OS/2 programs and to edit and browse 
  13. files through the use of user selected external programs.  It has an fully 
  14. integrated interface to Info-ZIP's excellent, PKZIP v2 compatible 
  15. archiving programs.

  17. Info-ZIP's software is free and the executables, ZIP.EXE and UNZIP.EXE, 
  18. (and source code) can be obtained from various bulletin board services 
  19. and anonymous-ftp sites, including CompuServe's IBMPRO forum and 
  20. ftp.uu.net:/pub/archiving/zip/*. The FileStar/2 interface requires the 
  21. version 5.1 of UNZIP.EXE. The latest version of ZIP.EXE, v2.0.1, is also 
  22. highly recommended.

  24. FileStar/2 is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to 
  25. the user for evaluation. It is not "crippled" in any way but does have
  26. an opening delay and periodic reminders to register as an incentive to 
  27. register the program. These "registration incentives" are removed by 
  28. registering the program.

  30. WHAT IS SHAREWARE?

  32. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. The essence
  33. of Shareware software is to provide personal computer users with quality 
  34. software without high prices.  It must, however, provide the incentive 
  35. for programmers to continue to develop new products.

  37. Shareware gives users a chance to try software before buying it.  If
  38. you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to
  39. register. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't 
  40. use the product, you don't pay for it.

  43. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and
  44. the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  45. exceptions as stated below.  Shareware authors are accomplished
  46. programmers, just like commercial authors, and most programs are of
  47. comparable quality.  (In both cases, there are good programs and bad
  48. ones!)  The main difference is in the method of distribution.  The
  49. author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute the
  50. software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group.  For
  51. example, some authors require written permission before a commercial
  52. disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

  74. If you find this program useful and continue to use FileStar/2 after a
  75. 45 day trial period, you must make a registration payment of $35 to
  76. the author.  The $35 registration fee will license one copy for use on
  77. any one computer at any one time.  Your registration will entitle you
  78. to use the current version and all future releases through the next
  79. major update.  At some point thereafter, a small update fee may be
  80. necessary.

  82. Commercial users of FileStar/2 must register and pay for their copies
  83. within 30 days of first use.  Site-License arrangements may be made 
  84. by contacting the author.

  86. DISTRIBUTING FILESTAR/2

  88. Anyone distributing FileStar/2 for any kind of renumeration must first
  89. contact the author for authorization.  This authorization will be
  90. automatically granted to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as
  91. adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such
  92. distributors may begin offering FileStar/2 immediately.

  95. for evaluation.  Please encourage them to register their copy if they
  96. find that they can use it.
